    Novoflex QuadroPod

Hi all, has anybody tried this tripod, or better to say quadropod, of course: http://www.novoflex.com/en/products/camera-support-systems/quadropod/ Does the fourth leg introduce noticable more sturdiness compared to tripods? Steve

    Low cost winners

With current offerings at the market, what do you think about a combination of the following three: Pentax Papilio 6,5x21 Canon 12x36 IS Fujinon 7x50 FMT-SX Nothing beats the Papilios at close-ups. Works rather well for sports, concerts and so on and, believe it or not, for birdwatching too...

    Mirrored globes against raptors?

Hi, I hope this is the right forum to ask about something I stumbled on in the internet. It's a mirrored ball or globe intended to prevent raptors from visiting the garden...

Colour changes of adult Common Frog from one year to another

Hi all, since two years I have a very welcome guest in my garden. It's a Common or Grass Frog (Rana temporaria) who use to choose frequently a flowerpot as his home at daytime during spring and summer. Last year I was able to identify it as a female because of its rods of glands at the sides...

    Flower ID please

Hi, found this flower carpet in the wood of mainly European spruce. The colour of the flowers in life were actually more bluish than the camera's captures (Canon SX40). A smell of honey was noticable close to the flowers. I didn't find the species in my books. Perhaps an escape from a garden...

    Close focus records

Hi all, The Pentax Papilios are well known for their outstanding close focus capabilities. I don't really see any competition to them in that respect. But perhaps I've just overlooked the competitors. Do you know any other binoculars (not monoculars) with very good (~ 1m or less) close focus...

Which superzoom for photography of insects?

Hi, mainly a birder, I cannot carry that much extra gear around like SLR and macro lenses additional to the scope and binoculars. But I'm also very much interested in insects like butterflies and dragonflies and want to do some photos of these. Since insects are pretty shy I have to keep the...

    Superzoom vs. digiscoping

Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post or the camera forum. I'm interested in experiences and opinions about the differences in image quality. How does the results a superzoom camera can give are able to compete with those one can get via a classical digiscoping...

    Birds in Storm

On the occasion of the storm here at the North Sea coast yesterday I wonder how seabirds overcome under such storm conditions. I always had the impression that sea birds don´t fly from storm force 11 and higher. But where do they stay during the storm? Do they mainly swim or do they fly? Steve

    Ergonomics

In this forum of binoculars we discussed about optics and brands so many times that one could think ergonomics are only a side issue for birdwatchers. On the other hand I think most of us know by practical experience about its importance. One main property of a product that was designed by...

    Pied Flycatcher - singing female?

Hi, for a few days I´ve heard a Pied Flycatcher - Ficedula hypoleuca - singing quite loud in a pine tree. Today I watched at him with a binocular the first time and it looked like a female. No black and white at all. Did anybody make the same observation or heard about singing females of this...

    Polarizing filter with binoculars

Hi, I frequently watch birds at the sea, at lakes, rivers and ponds. The sun is often reflecting over the water so I can´t see the birds that good. An old angler trick is using Polaroid sunglasses which enables them to look in the water. Some binoculars so as the Canon IS have the possibility...

    Nikon 14x40 and 12x36 StabilEyes

Hi everbody, in the internet one can find a lot of information about binoculars with image stabilisation technology like Canon IS or Fujinon Techno-Stabi. But I can´t find something worthy about the two models of Nikon. The Nikon 14x40 and 12x32 StabilEyes uses the same cabinetts as the...
