    Camera for very long distances.

Hi Pluton. You will never get an image through the P900's viewfinder as clear as you will get with a scope. If you are not in to photography and just want to use it to view wildlife, I would stick with a scope. However if you want to photograph the moon, see the attached photo. But the...

Nikon P950 for long range ID

I have ID'd birds by photographing them on full zoom, then getting the picture on the screen and zooming in on the image. The image isn't clear, but you can still make out features.

    Advice on birding in Cornwall

I totally understand Jon. I wasn't sure of their status in Cornwall and just thought there might have been a well known site for them. Thanks Steve! I might give that a go before braving the nightmare M5 on Saturday.

    Advice on birding in Cornwall

Hi everyone. I'm in Cornwall for the rest of this week and I was wondering if anyone could drop me a pm with a good site for Dartford Warbler. We are staying near St Agnes, but will be travelling around during the week. Any help will be much appreciated.

    Nikon p900 images.

I replaced my trusty SX50 with a P900 three weeks ago and today was the first chance I've had to really try it out. I am well impressed with the results. I think the SX50's AF would have really struggled with the Reed Warbler.

Where to see my target species?

Most Northumberland birders use a couple of Whatsapp groups for news, but you could try here for info. https://twitter.com/NTBirdClub

    Canon Powershot SX70 HS review

I thought I had read somewhere that the T/W switch on the lens barrel could be set to other functions.

    Canon SX70 .... September

Hi Neil. Yes the P900 is on my radar, I have seen some good results with it. I don't think a bigger zoom is the main issue, as I've always said that my SX50 doesn't need more magnification just better image quality. I hope Canon have done something special with the IQ, but I'm not holding my...

    Canon SX70 .... September

I saw a birder using a P1000 the other day and it looked very big and cumbersome. To me it's not what a bridge camera is all about. I'm also waiting to see what the IQ on the SX70 is like before I deside weather or not to replace my trusty SX50.

    Scotland

Dis-spite this the Findhorn valley is still a good place to see Golden Eagles. Last year on a walk along the valley we had 5 sighting of at least 3 individuals and the year before we had 4 Eagles in the air at the same time.

    Orlando Theme Park birding!

HI Lazza. 43 species isn't bad considering you just did the parks, it is amazing what you see in and around the parks. I've only been in October so not really sure what the bird life is like at the end of Aug beginning Sept. Next time you go you'll have to get out birding for a couple days...

    Advice on Hen Harriers

Langholm in the borders is the only place that will be mentioned for watching Hen Harriers. Any locations in Northumberland will be kept secret for very good reasons.

    Crossbill, Speyside

Thanks Steve! That was the impression I got in the field also. I see Common Crossbill a lot in Northumberland and these birds just looked structurally different.

    Crossbill, Speyside

I know that they can't really be ID'd for certain without a sonogram of their calls (I didn't have the sense to record them) or a DNA test. I was just after peoples opinions of this Crossbill in case I have missed anything. Thanks!

    Northumbrian Birding

A big murmuration of Starling over Brunswick Village this evening. I've heard that the locals have been complaining about them, so the council have been letting flares off to try and disperse them.

    Northumbrian Birding

Hi Derek. I was going to say, ask about the Grouse on the Durham thread because they might have more up to date info. But having now looked on the Durham thread, it doesn't seem to be used much. The Langdon Beck end of the road from St Johns Chapel used to be good for then, it's also been a...
