    Robin_2_July_30th_2022.JPG

A regular visitor in my garden this particular Robin since the winter. It's made multiple nesting attempts and was feeding young last month but I've not seen any youngsters around. Feathers starting to look a bit tatty around the head area with some feather loss.

This Robin is in the garden daily, looking scruffy now after a long nesting season and multiple nesting attempts, all of which I think have been unsuccessful as I've seen no young accompanying the adult. Nikon D3300 - SW80ED - 6x7 medium format 2x teleconverter glass mounted into Nikon...

Nice to have a pair of Goldfinches nesting in my garden this year, never had that before. Nikon D3300, SW80ED 600mm with a 2X telenegative taken from an old zoom lens. Not perfectly sharp as this thin branch was swaying around but it's near enough. Paul.

Robin from around 12m range. Nikon D3300 at ISO1600 and SW80ED with a telenegative lens from a 75-150mm EBC X-Fujinon Z lens. Also using the rear group of lenses that sit just behind the shutter blades and this seems to improve sharpness to a visible degree. This group of lenses unscrews from...

Last November I had some builders put together a studio in the garden for me to work in (full time artist). For the last 8 years I've been painting in the spare room which is only about 8ft x 6ft. The studio space is twice the size and located at one end of my garden. I've put floor to ceiling...

Introduction and question to the aperture of scopes

I think it would need to be further into the scope than how Fernando had it though. It would probably vignette more than increase depth of field where it was in the photo. I'd try the lens cap way first, the tiny loss of resolution will be undetectable in the photos, you get the benefit of...

Introduction and question to the aperture of scopes

Welcome Jörg. I keep one a diaphragm from an old lens on the end of the focus tube. I have it set fairly wide open, just use it to stop stray light more than anything. I use another diagram on the 2" camera to scope adapter. If I am using a barlow or teleconverter then I will keep it set to...

    Baader Q-Barlow 2.25X HT-mulicoated

I have it fairly close to the camera, as close as I can get it with bits I have available for mounting. A quick measure shows it's 1.5" from the front of the camera. I unscrewed the barlow from the Baader housing and screwed it into a regular eyepiece 1.25" chrome barrel. The chrome barrel has a...

    Baader Q-Barlow 2.25X HT-mulicoated

Couple more from yesterday with the new Baader barlow. Pigeon is uncropped from around 10m. Moon is a stack of 6 images using the built in Photoshop stacking script. Just hand holding the scope with it resting on the rotary washing line for these two images. I imagine the moon will come out even...

    Baader Q-Barlow 2.25X HT-mulicoated

First and last are both Dunnocks. I have a breeding pair at the moment, the male spends all day chasing the female trying to get her to mate. He'll get there eventually. Paul.

    Baader Q-Barlow 2.25X HT-mulicoated

Earlier this week I ordered one of these high quality barlows for my birthday which is at the end of the month. Couldn't resist a few test photos this morning. They've come down in price lately, this one was £45 on Amazon but you can pay almost double at some outlets. Very high quality glass...

Yes, and the rotary washing line is really good too. The washing line is the style that opens out like an upturned umbrella. With the four arms in the folded up position it holds the scope perfectly and I can rotate 360° as well as going from flat to pointing almost vertically up. It's a good...

    Dorset birding

They arrived around 1.15pm but weren't there for long today and weren't feeding on the berries over the road. Just seemed to flit around the tree tops and moved on after maybe 30 to 45 minutes. Sunny days seem to be best, that's when they stay for long periods. Paul.

4 Waxwing here again at Hanham Rd this afternoon, now that the rain has stopped. A 5th bird joined them for all of 10 seconds before it moved off elsewhere. Paul.

A little bit of eyepiece projection just for fun. The eyepiece is a microfiche lens assembly and these lenses project a very flat image onto the cameras sensor. Projecting a very flat image is very important with this method. Provides a lot of magnification too, these photos are mostly uncropped...

has anyone tried one of these

Generally that method yields quite poor results. The eyepiece basically projects an image onto the cameras sensor but eyepieces don't project a flat image. This can result in an image that is sharper only in the middle and softer or out of focus away from the centre. So many people try this...

    Dorset birding

Yes they looked great this morning, there for a long time too. I was out at 7.30am in the garden with the camera and then on and off for a couple of hours after that. Shame there was a stiff breeze blowing which made it difficult for me to get the feather detail. I was trying out one of my home...

Finally remembered to put my camera into RAW. Waxwing still here, been here since 14th February now. My tripod is still being used in my art studio so I took this resting the scope on top of a flower pot in a 20mph wind. Nikon D3300 + SW80ED + Fujinon 1.8X TN. Paul.

Had Waxwings here almost daily in the trees opposite my house since the 14th Feb. Photographed this one at sunrise this morning.

New to Digiscoping - Need Adapter Help

The 85mm would let in much more light and should certainly allow the use of a 50mm lens on the camera. Try hand holding the camera behind the eyepiece of the scope when it's focused on a target and take some photos. That would let you see what you can expect if you had a dedicated adapter. Paul.

    Robin close up

I was photographing Waxwing in the drizzle when this Robin popped up on my garden fence. Glad I took the opportunity to take this close up.

I was photographing Waxwing in the drizzle today and got this really nice Robin close up. I got the whole bird but went for a crop. Nikon D3300 + SW80ED + 2X Vivitar TC assembly from Pentax 645 medium format. Paul.

New to Digiscoping - Need Adapter Help

That sort of adapter would probably give you the best image quality as it allows you to keep the lens on the camera. They mention using a 50mm lens with the adapter but that might be a bit much for a 65mm scope. Dropping down to a 35mm or 28mm prime lens might be better as it will give a...
