    Newbie

Had mine since they came on the market. Never any problems with it, I tend to use Bird setting. This is basically auto with multishot (up to 7 ) and preset zoom. I set the zoom to 500mm but in use you can just zoom in and out to suit yourself. Most times I do a burst of 3 or 4 shots of birds...

Should I by a bridge/superzoom camera *instead of* a scope?

I have used big scopes, attached video cameras to them, attached still cameras to them, even told by some on here that it was not possible! I now use a superzoom, and I use the word super deliberately. I sold all my scopes and purchased a Nikon with 10x zoom (can’t remember the number). Simply...

    Camera for birder recommendations

Simmond, go for the 1000. I have a 900 and upgraded to the 1000. there are several features on the 1000 like the focus ring (manual) a godsend when searching undergrowth, particularly birds at distance on the ground. Always difficult advising others what to buy, but as a guy who never travels...

    learnt a new trick yesterday

I have a P1000. Where I fish I often spot buzzards wheeling at a great height, probably 500feet or more, and usually fail to get a sharp picture. What I normally do is to zoom out to almost maximum and then use the "snap back" function to get the bird in frame and release the snap back to zoom...

    Hide clamp mobility scooter

You could try Halfords for advice, or any other cycle shop may offer various handlebar type fittings which you could adapt. A pole with camera attachment on the end, held on with a couple of bungees may work well enough. I use my scooter most days of the week across fields and through woods...

    P950 'Birdwatching' mode

Page 31 of the 1000 manual...just a brief mention of bird mode. as said before, it is auto but with burst and a preset zoom if you want to change it from the default 800mm :) I rarely use it, I select S (shutter) and adjust the speed for anything moving about a bit, but with everything else on...

    P950 'Birdwatching' mode

The P1000 Bird setting is basically multi burst shot (7) while retaining auto. It presets at 800mm but you can change that in or out at will with the Zoom button. Den

    Bridge camera advice, please

I have both the 900 and the 1000. Never had a problem with the “autofocus speed” I spend a huge amount of time either sitting or wandering about and if I see something I just point the camera and click One of the best things about the 1000 is the manual focus ring...

Looking to replace my Nikon Coolpix P900

I have had (and still have) both the 900 and the 1000. Apart from the extra bulk the 1000 is a far better camera than the 900, You mention the focus ring and birds obscured in foliage...well for me, as a general walk around photograph anything guy, you will come to love that focus ring...

Can Anyone Help With Missing Birds?

Had a similar "problem" recently. lots of resident sparrows, dunnocks, pigeons, doves, blue tits, great tits, blackbirds and several others :) Sparrow hawk used to flash through about once a day...never seemed to get anything. Sparrows bred well and we got over thirty all feeding/ being...

    Camera for very long distances.

I am sure that Nikon claim the 900 as 83x and the 1000 at 123x. Perhaps they work it out differently? you can get quite good at handholding either of them at full zoom, but in a hide I use a clamp, focus on the subject and watch it on the monitor.......... very relaxing. even better connected...

    Camera for very long distances.

Hi Pluto. having owned an 80mm scope to which I attached a 20x eyepiece and a 10x video camera with good results. I then switched to a 10x bridge and added a 1.7 convertor lens. I then moved up to a P900 and loved it, never felt I was losing any image quality. My next move was to a...
