    Apparently this fella was brought back from South America in the 1890s, it then died in 1930. Don't know any more than that.

    I don't know, there seems to be some momentum behind this project. But yes, given our history of endless red tape over reintroductions, I'm not holding my breath.

    I think the trials should ease concerns (if it gets that far). Lynx are not opportunists like foxes. They are shy, secretive animals that live in dense woodlands and eat deer. Once people realise that they will be more supportive.

    400 is a bit more sensible, but its still a drastic level of culling for a species that is only just re-establishing itself. Hopefully a proportion of the excess 600 can spread into new areas rather than simply be culled.

    Thats very interesting. I posted what I did above before reading your post - I've always assumed that the wider public view twitchers with a degree of ridicule, much like they do trainspotters. Maybe I'm mistaken.

    Sorry of there is already a thread, but this seems to be increasingly likely. Presumably people here are all in favour? I can't see many sensible reasons not to. My only query would be whether some of the sites are big enough to support a sustainable population. Thetford forest for example.
