    pelagic from Muscat, Oman

I`ve arranged a pelagic trip out from said location on 4th November this year, heading to Al Fahl island for Sooty Falcon (& maybe still Red-billed Tropicbird) & then further offshore for Shearwaters & Petrels (Jouanins & Wilsons etc), In all a 4 hour trip. if anyone else is interested in...

    2 Pugs

Hi all Having some trouble with these two. Both caught last Friday night & quite small with an 18-19mm wing span. I initially thought Slender Pug but wing shape looks wrong & no prominent discal spot. I could be well wide of the mark here, but can`t get Maple Pug out of my thoughts, not a...

    Spanish Moths

Can anybody help with these 3 taken back in May this year in the Zaragoza region. The first I think may be Pleurota aristella, the 2nd perhaps a Heterogynis sp. (penella?) & the 3rd one I have`nt managed to track down at all as yet.

Hi all Will be travelling through the above mentioned areas in a couple of weeks time & wondered if anybody has any up to date info on the likes of Wallcreeper at Gabardito, visible Duponts Lark, B.S.Kite, Moustached Warbler, Lesser crested Tern etc. Thanks, Rob

    Wasp sp. ?

Photographed this on 2/10 in Norfolk & have`nt been able to put a name to it as yet. I know very little about this group of insects other than they can be very tricky to I.D. The nearest i`ve come to it is a Trichrysis & Omalus sp. neither of which I think it is. Size was c5mm long

    Tortrix sp.

Had a couple of cracks to come up with a name for this one now but with no joy. Found flying amongst Oxe-eye Daisy. Any ideas ?

    2x micros for I.D.

Both these species were daylight observations seen in bog/fen habitat within the last couple of days. Size of both was between 5-10mm long. Can`t help thinking that the first one could be Diamond-back Moth, lacking the "nose cone", but the pattern does`nt look right to me. Dont have a clue on...

    Moths of March 2012

Hi all, Given the current spring like weather & ever increasing emergent species numbers, I think we can safely move on from the moths through winter thread & dive headlong in to the new season (fingers crossed). A trip to my local woodland for a couple of hours last night...

    Noctuid I.D.

Can`t find a name for this one as yet, caught on the 8th of this month in the garden. All the best looking candidates to my eyes either should`nt be flying as yet or dont quite match up. All suggestions gratefully received.

    January Moths

On an appropriately almost spring like day, i managed to clock up 4 species. Two were disturbed from their slumbers during the course of some house renovations, Twenty-plume Moth & Agonopterix heracliana/ciliella & a bit later on i found a freshly emerged Spring Usher alongside a Winter Moth on...

    Elachista help

Working through the key on Kleine vlinders, i think (hope) i`ve arrived at a point where i can say this is either alpinella or luticomella, any further input would be appreciated. All 3 pics are of the same moth, just different lighting.

    Perittia ?

Continuing my run of not being able to name the moth & taking crap pictures of it as well heres my latest effort. Perittia obscurepunctella is the nearest i can get to it but once again i`m not entirely convinced. Not enough pics of the species on the net.

    Phyllonorycter sp.

Photographed these today flying around sallows in a wetland area. The nearest i can find is P.salictella, but doesnt look quite right to me, any suggestions ? The first 2 pics are the same moth & the 3rd is presumably a better marked/less worn individual. Note the weak/ almost absent basal...

    Argyresthia sp. ?

Had no luck in trying to I.D this one as yet, not even sure of family. Any suggestions ? Photo taken today, its the best i could manage before it flew off again, size was c8-10mm

    Heliozela sp.

Caught this last night & would expect sericiella but not how most seem to appear. Any thoughts on the possibility of hammoniella ? Trapped in mixed woodland with both Oak & Birch present.

    Fly sp.

Can anyone put a name to this, or just family ? Taken last W/E. c5mm long & appears to be carrying eggs.

    Tortrix sp. Norfolk

Have now looked through the Tortricidae twice on UKMoths trying to find this, without success. Am i barking up the wrong tree ? There are a few species it almost looks like but nothing thats an absolute match. Taken yesterday p.m. on heathland if that helps.

    caterpillar I.D.

Does anyone know what species this is ? I have looked through what limited literature i have & can`t find it so then thought i`d take the easy route. Pic taken on Saturday.
