    New recorders on the horizon?

    I'm in the market for a new recorder, with the Marantz PMD661 at the top of my list, but I seem to have a knack for buying things just as they become obsolete. Does anyone know if new models or new recorders are coming out anytime soon in the under $1,000 price range? Thanks

    Spotting scope needed?

    I will be in New Zealand for a couple of weeks in November and plan on hitting some of the top birding sites on both islands. It seems that much of the birding is shorebirds/seabirds and wetland areas. Will I regret it if I leave my spotting scope at home? Thanks for any advice. Bruce
