    8x32 advice?

Tell me about it. I have been angering people for half a century and will gladly continue to do so. There are several on this forum who know which end is up. However, they are comfortable allowing ME to be the target! The truth is not always popular. It is, however, always the truth. "The enemy...

    8x32 advice?

I have never seen a Nikon 8x32 SE with a "fatal fungal incursion." However, Cory Suddarth—S.R.O.—can solve your problem. After which, the instrument will need to be collimated. Cory has a collimator, or two ... or THREE and doesn't rely on that stupid "power pole" or "roof line" business that...

"Optically correct" probably means "collimated." As for curved field, please note my sales tool from Captain's Nautical.

    Steiner Hunting 10x50

There is so very much more than GLASS going on here! But, some people don't know and some people don't care. A few years ago, I THOROUGHLY explained an aberration a fellow was complaining about. He wanted quantifiable answers. I gave him accurate answers as simply stated as the situation would...

    Steiner Hunting 10x50

Oh, my friend, I KNOW I am often taken as being rude. I do regret that. But I know the truth is far more important than me ... so: “If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a...

    ED x non-ED - color saturation.

If you can quantify "almost no aberrations," it would be a good thing. Do you know what Seidel Aberrations are? And how they interact with each other.

    Steiner Hunting 10x50

Is it the prisms or something else? Some people will easily spent $3,000+ to "UPGRADE" their binoculars when, in fact, most will never actually REALIZE a difference. When I bought my Nikon 8x32 Superior E, I had 5 or 6 cases on my sales floor—with several models of Zeiss, Leica, and Swarovski...

    Steiner Hunting 10x50

Steiner was started in Germany, although most have been manufactured in Asia over the last few year. If your "AF" stands for "auto—focus." Well, I have been fighting that piece of idiotic ADVERTISING since 1976. You may tell anyone I said so ... I need the money. Good advertising need not be...

    Checking Collimation

Hi Charlie: I still think you are thinking this very simple device and procedure to death. In 50+ years in the business, I have never seen a “plastic” eccentric system. You are probably looking at a retainer. I’ve seen plenty of plastic retainers. The first photo attached is the eccentric...

    Focussing: Just Do It!

Maybe, if I'm really good, God will give me 5 minutes alone with the idiot who started all this AUTO-FOCUS/FIXED-FOCUS garbage that only works for those dumb enough to believe it! It seems too many people can't figure out the realities of the matter!

    Focussing: Just Do It!

Bill Cook didn’t quote those tolerances. He was just repeating the words of the US Navy Opticalman tech manual, NAVEDTRA 10205-C. I also pointed out those specs can be found in other books (see attached). While Opticalman 3&2 was listed 6th on the list, three things should be noted: 1. It was...

    Checking Collimation

With an auxiliary scope in hand and a sturdy test fixture in hand, you are correct. Where you are wrong is in calling a Mk5 collimator "a complicated device." A lens and reticle hardly make for a complicated device.
