    Broken Zeiss 8x20 BT* :-(

I have owned and daily-carried a Zeiss 8x20 BT* for close to 20 years. It has always been a favorite because of its size and convenience. I have seen a great many things in this optic that I would have otherwise missed. Recently, however, the edge of the left optical barrel broke off. I...

    NL 8X42

Heaven forbid a discussion veer into the realms of something that might bore Dennis. Oddly, I’ve now had to skim through far more posts about one person’s topical preferences than I did about the definition of the offending word - which I at least found interesting and instructive.

Reply to review by 'lucznik' on item 'Leupold Golden Ring 15-30x50mm'

Since writing this, I have had a few experiences that changed some of my previously-held opinions. Once I set up three spotting scopes: the Leupold, a 60mm Nikon, and my 80mm Elite and tried to watch a buck bedded in some very tall sagebrush. Through the 50mm scope I could not see the buck...

    Bausch & Lomb Premier HDR

Does anyone have any first-hand experience with the Bausch & Lomb Premier HDR (15-45x65) spotting scope? I know it’s a bit old, but how it compare with some of the other budget (sub $500) spotting scopes on the current market? I’ve owned both B&L and Bushnell Elite 15-45x60 scopes in the past...

    Why not FLP scopes?

It’s been awhile since I’ve been on so; I apologize if this has been addressed but: Why don’t more birdwatchers use Folded Light Path (FLP) spotting scopes such as the Leupold Golden Rings, The Minox MD60 (or 80) Z, or perhaps the more budget friendly Bushnell Excursion or Legend T, or the...

    Bushnell Elite ED 10x42 Review

You can't. It's design only allows so much adjustment (or cutting). I agree that it is made too long. There are, of course, lots of alternative options available.

How you store and transport your binoculars

I have an 8x20 Zeiss in a case on my belt or in a pocket pretty much all the time. This is also my primary "travelling" binocular as its size is so conducive to easy carrying. My full sized bins lay around on counters and desks in my home, ready to be grabbed should some bird, rabbit, deer...

What binoculars do you think have the most WOW factor!

I never think "wow" as a result of a binocular. The "wow" factor only comes as a function of what I am looking at THROUGH the binocular. Optics are a tool; nothing more.

    Why no Alpha 7x32`s

Leupold had their switch power 7/12x32. The FoV for a 7x is a bit narrow @ 376 ft (7.2*) but it is otherwise quite excellent. The added ability to switch to 12x when you want a little bit closer look at something that has caught your interest is fantastic and more than makes up for any...

    Bushnell Elite ED 10x42 Review

Binoculars arrived today and so far I'm really pleased. They'll get a thorough workout this weekend but, first impressions suggest they are even better than my old split-bridge model.

    Bushnell Elite ED 10x42 Review

I once had an "original" open-bridge Elite that I should never have sold. Overstock.com has a very few of these new Elite EDs on sale right now for $449. Coupled with Bushnell's current ('till the end of the year) rebate program offering $75 and .the final cost will be just $374. So I've...

    Elite 2.5x Doubler

The Elite doubler is one of my favorite pieces of gear. I really like it as a means of carrying a small spotting scope when weight is a real factor and even a 50mm scope would be too much. I have always been very impressed with the high-quality image I get from it. Not in line with a good...

Binocular optics doublers ,how good are they ?

I had the Bushnell Elite 2.5x doubler for awhile. I had it coupled with my 10x43 Elite binocular and I found it very useful indeed. I almost always mounted the binocular to a small tripod when I used the doubler and, while the image was both narrower and dimmer than when the binocular was used...

The truth about binocular warranties (U.S.)

Mine is an 8x42. I also owned a 10x42 for awhile and I very much regret selling that one. I didn't know tjere was ever a 9x35 in the Discoverer lineup. As to my experience with Bushnell customer service; I am happy to announce that this afternoon my Discoverer was delivered to my door step...

The truth about binocular warranties (U.S.)

My experience with Bushnell service has been hit and miss. On one occasion (with one of their split-bridge Elite binoculars) the service I got was quick, on point, and free. On another occasion, I called about a problem I was having with a 7x42 roof prism Discoverer and the service I received...

    Leupold Switch Power review (10/17x42)

I thought I would post some info about a new binocular my wife got for me for a combo birthday/Christmas present. It is the 10/17x42 Leupold Golden Ring (GR) Switch Power (SP) binocular. I think I will start out by giving some basic specs. I am also including the same specs for the Leica...

    Binoculrs for KISHY

Posted on Tero's long-lost thread as well... This will sound harsh. I know. Nevertheless... I have no experience with Opticron (not sold in the USA - that I know of) so; I will limit my comments to the others you have listed though, my guess is the Opticron would fit right in as well...

Better depth of field = almost assuredly yes, because of the Porro prism design. I don't know about any comparison of colors.

    Killer Deal on 7x42 Discoverer

Have you considered starting out with sending the binocular to Bushnell for repair? They are advertised as having a Lifetime warranty. It would be worth the cost of postage to put that warranty to the test. There's no reason (yet) to simply write them off as "going to waste."

    Overall Best Binoculars

I think the best part of these Optic1050s is the "instant eye width regulator." :t: If only my expensive binoculars had come with such an amazing feature... o:D Throw on some ED glass and you'd have something that would really give ol' Zen-Ray a run for their money!! After all, they're...
