    That is very interesting! I've seen hummers with the patch of red in the middle of the throat and assumed it was a young male. So in otherwords, the females grow these red feathers and then they molt them out? How else are they sexed other than going by the gorget

    DH saw one today while I was at work. We will only see a few here and there at this time of year. Maybe a good thing, so I can get some yard word and house work done.

    I don't know if you will be able to tell from this photo or not, but it looks like the white is more a less a bald spot when you magnify this picture.

    I get lots of them that have white on their head, it's like allmost half of their heads on some. You wouldn't think they would mark their heads. I'm sure someone here will know.

    Our Auxiliary is going to send money to the red cross. We have a couple of blood drives for them a year. If anyone is thinking of a donation, this is where I would send it. I do know that the hummers here all season have been few. Not like the last couple of years. It's like one day feast...
