    Bought a mint 2nd hand one and am delighted with it. Focuses fast with a 1.4 converter on a 40D and the optical quality is superb with and without the converter.

    Agree with Bryan but wanted to add in a comment about the superb IS and quick auto focus. Too short a focal length for dedicated bird photos but good to take \"on spec\" where you would leave a longer lens behind because of weight , bulk and the need for a tripod with a big lens.
