Does this exist: A tri-pod quick release screwdriver?

If you decide to go down this route buy the cheapest nastiest wood chisel you can find, something from the far east with the hardness of a snickers bar....or buy 20 files:p I think the ruler idea was a good one, some lateral thinking might turn up the ideal tool from an unlikely place.Have a hunt...

    Cats and Squirrels

Thank you all for your recollections and thoughts, even the grisly ones:) We have all(probably)heard the derogatory term "tree rat" whenever squirrels come into a conversation. The body mass of squirrels, esp' reds, and rats are broadly similar, and i have seen cats affect the "well,im not REALLY...

    Cats and Squirrels

Watched my cat watch a squirrel(grey)tonight.Neither seemed to be anxious at the others presence,at about 20yds apart. Are squirrels too much like hard work to catch or are they able to fight back sufficiently well to put the cat off?I cant ever remember seeing a cat stalk a squirrel, grey or...

BBC Wildlife Article on Red Squirrels

Appol's for being slightly off topic, fishermen the length and breadth of the signals range are killing them on sight.Thats a lot of people actually out there with muddy fingers. It will almost certainly not stop the spread. An interesting side effect of the signal crayfishes population explosion...

What's been in your garden today?

New to garden feeding, always thought our 2 cats would be a problem, now wishing i'd started years ago. A fat ball, peanut cage and seed mix feeder for a week now, hanging on the washing line, permanent table and pole plans well underway. Blue, great and long tailed provide regular mini aerobatic...

    Vermin?

The local angling club i belong to (Newport Pagnell) have applied for and been granted a license to shoot a set number of cormorants on their waters, needless to say i wont be renewing my membership. Im no expert but im assuming these birds are coming so far inland to take advantage of the growth...

    Advice on jacket and boots

Has anyone tried electrically heated socks etc?I have a jacket that plugs into a socket on my bike and its lovely and snug but dont know anyone with battery powered kit. My gut feeling is that these things may be too cumbersome, short bat life etc.Piking in mid winter(if we get a winter!) can be...

    Advice on jacket and boots

Mm,i've been near to tears in wellies in winter, ive never worn anything worse for keeping my feet warm.Stable boots, half welly half boot and well lined might be a better compromise if on a tight budget. Still have an old pair of 'bogtrotters',3/4 length wellies that are good for mild and wet and...

    Advice on jacket and boots

Sealskinz socks, about 20 quid a pair bought for me and never looked back, superb. If mobility isnt an issue take a look at boom 80 boots, made for fishermen and superbly warm even for those like me whose feet are a long way from the rest of them |=)| ,hopeless for walking any distance though,unless...

Bill Oddie like him or loathe him

Did anyone see the little series of progs he did with Kate Humble?Okay,it was all basic stuff that most of us know anyway but if it got even a couple of dozen folk interested it was well worthwhile.Miss(Mrs?) Humble did a few fascinating pieces on moths that started an interest for me but if im...

    Birding breadth vrs. birding depth

I've gone a bit further down that road and dont visit reserves at all any more.It wasnt a concious decision, just kinda drifted away from it.Even midweek hides are rarely empty and i cant stand the shoulder to shoulder stuff that happens at the popular places.Add in a "mouth" or two and the whole...

    Birding breadth vrs. birding depth

I think there are twitchers and birdwatchers, with an obvious grey area between.I dont mean to be small minded, finger pointy or anything like that but pure twitching seems to be very trainspotter-esque,while the watchers are more likely to stop and watch, say,a shrew, even if it means they miss the...

Close encounters with other wildlife whilst birding

Hello Dave, I would be surprised if there werent any roe in your area.I live within a few miles of the woburn estate where the water deer etc. originally escaped from way back when the landed gentry collected animals from abroad. There are roe in my area, but maybe not as many as there could be...

Close encounters with other wildlife whilst birding

Wonder if muntjac deer in an area reduce possible number of natives,ie.Roe? Have been barked at(BOHH!)by Inquisitive/territorial roe buck in the dark when walking back quietly from a hide.He was 8-10 ft from me behind young scots pine and shot my heart into 180+ and my legs into overdrive!
