Vortex Razor HD 50 : any other eyepieces? (from Vortex or other brand, Swarovski, Opticron, ...)

Sorry, in a quest for an eyepiece with a twist-up eyecup (that we have been asking for ever since their introduction with the fold-down rubber version) we have tried just about every screw-thread eyepiece out there and cannot find one to fit the Razor 50. Sorry!

    Tightening the hinge

In short, yes! Be sure to loosen or undo the locking grub screw first though and careful not to lose it as this will need to be tightened back up once you've tightened the hinge to your own requirements. All the best, Dave.

What scope for phonescoping on a budget less than £500

From your location, I'd suggest heading on over to somewhere such as Cley Spy in Glandford and spending some time with them to test and try out new and secondhand models within your budget. They can also advise on suitability for Phonescoping at the same time. Trust this helps, Dave

    Is Vortex Optics next??

Hi Lee, Yes, Vortex will be there for what will be approximately our 11th year at the Birdfair. Same place (we presume) As the past 7 years, Marquee 1, Stands 1+2. If you want to take a look at the Vortex line up in the meantime, our current list of dealer days and shows is on our website...

Swaro 25-50x WA in Vortex scope

That's correct, the Swarovski SW series of eyepieces (25-50x / 30x) WILL fit the Vortex Razor HD 85/65 scope but the Vortex 20-60x zoom will NOT fit the Swarovski. Conversely, the Vortex 30x eyepiece with the ranging reticle WILL fit the Swarovski ATS scope as we have supplied these before to...

    Vortex Diamondback updates

Dielectric coatings are an advanced form of Phase-correction so yes, the prisms do have the dielectric coatings. Having compared the two 8x42s side by side (to check FOV data) we can say that the new 2016 version is fractionally brighter and has a better colour rendition than the previous...

Viper 8x32 vs EO Ranger ED 8x32?

Yes, in short! Although they share many characteristics incl close focus, FOV, same eyecups, same locking diopter etc, the Vipers are better optically and when put side by side, especially in more difficult light can be seen. When at field days people have voiced the same opinion, some happy...

Vortex Razor 65 notchy focus wheel

Perfect situation for the VIP Warranty to be used....? If you've still got the 'scope, let us have it back (directly or via your dealer) and if it can't be fixed, it'll be replaced.

    Talon HD or Viper HD

32mm Talons have been discontinued (and certainly to me had a yellowish tinge) but I've never noticed it in the 42mm versions that are still current in the range. As for sales trend, here in the UK the Viper HDs outsell the Talon HDs on a massive ratio.

    Swarovski 25-50w eyepiece.

Yes, this 25-50x SW fits and works fine on the Razor 85 HD body. Trust this helps! Dave.

Vortex Razor HD 85 wide angle eyepiece - worth getting?

If you're considering other manufacturer's eyepieces, don't forget a certain well-known Austrian brand has eyepieces that fit the Razor body... I have the 30xSW on my Razor 85HD... :t:

Vortex Viper 8x28 and Kamakura 8x28 the same?

I do not know (despite my connections with the brand), however from taking a Vortex bino to a dealer the other day a comparison with another similarly-priced bino which on paper looked identical to said Vortex bino for tech specs, and also looked a bit like it, the difference in looking through...

Weight of 65mm scopes Viper and Vortex

Hi all, Much of the Viper 65's weight can be attributed to the much thicker all-over rubber armouring which it has when compared with the Razor. The Razor 65's magnesium alloy body has partial rubber armouring (the green part) but is otherwise a painted surface of the body itself. T-W you are...

    20x56 Vortex Kaibab

Just to stop the rumour mill from growing, the new 15x56 specification as mentioned above doesn't seem to be attached to the Talon HD from what we have seen. Sorry can't be more exact than that but wonder if you could check with your source again Steve?

All iScoping/mobile adapter questions and queries... And hopefully some answers too

My apologies if this is called as self promotion / advertising, but just to add to the list PhoneSkope that make a wide range of adapters for spotting scope eyepieces and have cases to fit iPhones and Android devices. Currently adapters are available to fit eyepieces including Swarovski, Zeiss...

    Vortex Viper 15-45x65 (non-HD) - opinions?

From the Vortex point of view, as this is $50 less than the 60mm Diamondback, the choice between those two is an absolute no-brainer. The 'XD' Vipers are being phased out so if you can get one at that price, it's a steal especially when compared against the $399 60mm Diamondback.

Any way to extend eye cups beyond max on Vortex Viper HD 8x42?

No, sorry, there's not. When you're at max 'twist' the metal runner is at its full extension. A real DIY suggestion however - could Vortex CAnada send you a spare pair of rubber eyecups to put on over the existing ones and hence extend the eyecups by a few mms?

Delkin USB3 Card reader & card compatability?

Hi all, after taking delivery of my 2nd of the above readers (1st one kept appearing & disappearing from my PC) I can get it to read all bar one of my cards. It's fine with the Sandisk (older) Ultra II 15MB/s 4GB CF card and Extreme III 30MB/s 2GB & 4GB CF cards but doesn't want to know the...

Help, Vortex Viper HD or Razor HD?

A very difficult one to advise on but a few pointers which may help... If we are talking about the angled versions of the scopes, the Razor 85mm is about 6cm shorter than the Viper 80mm although thr Razor weighs an extra c200g. The Viper HD 80mm, although physically lighter does seem by...

    70-200mm triple test

Failing that, you should be able to get your hands on a 70-200 L IS (mk1) used for about the same as the non IS version you've looked at. Stunning lens and I've not yet seen any evidence that the mark II justifies another £800 over what I paid for mine used.

Canon 100-400 + 1.4x TC. The birders favourite.

Can't argue with its quality for the price - don't tend to use the 1.4x unless really necessary but with the 1D3 and micro-adjusted for both with and without the TC on I've had some (though I say it myself) damn good results.

    Vortex Razor HD ...alternate eyepieces?

Whoops!! That should read... I think I'm right in saying that the original AT/ST80 eyepieces DO NOT fit it but have never had a problem with the ATS/STS range of eyepieces. Sorry!

    Vortex Razor HD ...alternate eyepieces?

We've got a Swarovski 30x SW eyepiece in our demo kit for the Razor 85HD that goes with us to all shows as an alternative (albeit almost 2x the price) to the VTX fixed 30x eyepiece. We've also fitted several 25-50x Swarovski zooms to it when customers have asked to see it on the Razor. I think...
