Poll - Trying to get some numbers on Swarovski rubber armour issues.

I agree with your account. Mine became sticky and a little loose feeling; then one day a crack appeared. It wasn't there the day before. I hadn't heard about this problem until then. Since repaired with probably the same duff armour.....will probably need repairing again in two or three years...

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

19,000 views on this thread and over 500 comments......can't be good for Swarovski's reputation.

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

Update: I've now got my EL 8x32s back from Swarovski after being repaired; took about 6 weeks. They look like new but there was no report with them to say what they did so I've no idea whether they re-armoured them with the same duff armour or used something new or an older armour version. I...

That's not how your comment came across to me. Sorry if I misunderstood.

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

I don't think the problem of disintegrating armour is 'ware and tear'. My bins are less than five years old. I am a birder. I use them daily which is what they are for! I clean them regularly, not with harsh chemicals but with mild soapy water on the barrels and eyeglass cleaner on the...

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

As there are several of you in Singapore with this problem, maybe you could persuade the local Swarovski dealer to gather them all up and send them back all together at Swarovski's expense. I have heard that in the UK, that's what they do. About once a month they apparently collect them all...

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

Mine have been used only in Europe, moderate climate and not very hot and humid. This problem developed in under 5 years.

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

Good. Hope they reply and I will be interested to read what they say. Please keep posting. The company that I bought my EL 8x32s from has emailed to say and I quote, "I had an email from Swarovski on the 27th June to confirm the binoculars will be repaired free of charge. Going by recent...

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

I wish I had taken a photo of mine before sending them off for repair or 'servicing', depending on your point of view. Will post an update when I get them back.

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

I just hope that when they re armour my bins the armour will be different to the original. There is no point doing the work with the duff armour that only lasts a few years.

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

Interesting. Thanks for posting the thread bittern. I bought my EL 8x32 in 2018. I had noticed the armour was discoloured and scuffed in a way I would not have expected on bins only 5 years old. Then last week I discovered a crack about 6cm long on the side of one of the barrels! Similar to...

    Nikon Servicing in UK

Update: Well it took me months to send off my bins......I didn't want to be without them you see. But finally did when the focusing got too slow as the cover was slipping too much. Sent them off two weeks ago and had them returned today. They quoted £85 for a clean, service and replacement...

You'll just have to start a new list. Two not very exciting ones to add: 42) Collared Dove 43) Mallard but on the plus side, Yellowhammers singing!

Gosh! You two are a literary pair. Sorry about the set back H. I can really really sympathise. I did my stint as Sussex Bird Report editor for five years and and know the IT and editorial problems. Is there some way you can recover the info? There are people who are able to find these lost...

Welcome Paul. We count all birds seen and/or heard, close or distant. Scopes allowed too. It helps to have big skies.

I'll never get that! But a few more: 38) Greylag Goose 39) Long-tailed Tit 40) Wren I'm envious of those who get winter Blackcaps. Despite having old ivy festooned with berries and living in the south of England, I've never had one.

    Garden / Yard List 2017

A few more to add for me: 33) Canada Goose 34) Pheasant 35) Little Egret, this is a surprise; only a few ever and this one was clearly on the move, flew over SW to escape the cold probably. 36) Green Woodpecker 37) Goldcrest, heard this morning. Missed it last year.
