Card Readers to downlad photos onto my PC

For my G10 I have a 7DayShop SD HC/MMC card reader /writer. It looks like a USB stick, and plugs directly into the computer. The images download directly to the computer hard disk. For my Canon 40D CF cards I have a Lexar Firewire CompactFlash Reader which is connected to a Firewire slot on the...

    Little Owls.

For the past few weeks, two Little Owls (Athene noctua) have been in the garden in broad daylight, morning and evening, mainly perching on the tennis court supports but also in the apple and pear trees. This evening for the first time this year, two youngsters appeared, still fluffy, but well...

    Canon 450D

The viewfinder of the 40D is brighter than the 450D. Also it is possible to change the optical screen to one with a grid (not possible to do this with 450D). All my seascapes now have level horizons, and my verticals are vertical.

    Canon 550D (T2i) Announced

It is rather interesting going into Canon's website and comparing side by side the specifications of the 550D with the 50D and the 7D

Internet Explorer 8 - slow, unstable, big memory usage

What is wrong with Safari? I use it as my default. Its ability to deal with different colour formats is good.

    Plustek Slide Scanner

Thanks for your comment. The Plustek scans at 7200 dpi. I have solved the problem, it is the saved resolution. I hadn't realised this could be changed. For some reason it was set at 200dpi, if I up this considerably then I can save very sharp TIFF images. I am now fighting with the dust and...

    Plustek Slide Scanner

I have recently purchased a Plustek 7500 i AI slide scanner. I decided it was about time I transferred all my Kodachromes to digital. Having processed the images they seem very sharp. However when I save the images as TIFF files and open them in Photoshop the definition drops dramatically. Any...

    Saving e-mail on hard drive

I don't quite understand the question. All my e-mails which I wish to save,I open and save in whichever folder I want to on my hard disc. Alternatively you could open a new folder, label it e-mails and save all your e-mails in it.

    Canon press conference

Having only last week bought a G10, I was a bit miffed at learning about the new G11 today. That is until I heard the pre-order price of £569. I only paid £329 for my G10. The only real complaint I have after a few days with the G10 is noise at any ISO above 200. But that is well documented...

If you by an Intel Mac you can run Windows on it, though why anyone should want to, I don't know.

    Trouble Downloading Photo's to computer

Why download from your camera? It is much simpler and quicker using a card reader, for example using a FireWire. And you don't use up your camera battery.

    CF card speed slowing down?

Why do you need to format after every day? I only reformat when the card is full. I always carry several cards with me. When the first one is full, I put in the next one ( previously formatted in camera), download the full one when I am next at my computer, then reformat it in camera, and it...

    which camera upgrade??

This may seem absurd, but to me the main advantage of the 40D or 50d over all the 400, 450 and 500D models is the larger viewfinder and the fact that one can change the focussing screens. I use the one with the grid markings and no more sloping horizons or tilting trees.

    USB cords

All my USB leads are permanently connected to my computer and their respective apparatus, and have been from the day I bought the computer. Printers, scanner, external hard drives. I switch them off at night but leave them connected. The only lead not continously connected to its apparatus is...

    Lens upgrade

I have found the 50-250 lens very adequate. OK, not as good as my 70-200f4 L lens, but with IS often out performs that lens, which needs a tripod or very fast shutter speed. (I cannot afford the IS version)

    DPP v 3.6 now available

It scores over the earlier edition. I have only one objection it converts my exif data to American, the date comes out as 04/27/2009 instead of the correct, and that set in the camera 27/04/2009. Just like Microsoft Office.

    Angle Finder C For Canon

The old Canon Anglefinder B which which I originally had with my FTb and A1 (using Adaptor S for square eyepiece cameras) fits perfectly on my 400D and 40D, and presumably all EOS cameras film and digital. This model uses a prism so that the image is viewed the correct way round. There was a...
