    Attached a German hybrid and a captive hybrid of this combination from UK in this paper, showing part of the variation. The Irish bird seems even more colourful.... The paper also contains two photos of gadwall x shoveler for comparison.

    Well , those are pointers, but it is more complex ...Both domestic variants of mallard and a bit less so, also of muscovy , are quite variable...green speculum without or with reduced white borders can also be a pointer, pink elements in the bill coloration as well...

    I agree colourwise it looks much better for hobby...but it is a very blurry photo... BUT as you do not know what it is actually doing with its wings just at the moment of photo, I wouldn´t count that pro peregrine ... If the wings are in a position like this...

    It is a tail of Great spotted woodpecker, red are the undertail coverts, and what is stained pale brown here is white in fresh feathers. (such staining occurs through contact with decaying wood)

    While i have not enough experience with separating non-adult birds and can´t give much help on the original problem, I think the Zwillbrocker Venn problem is not that large ( but that is personal view) and might be solved with removing Chilean Flamingoes.     Please , do you have any pictures showing bill pattern and color? it could be a bird with an intersex plumage ( mostly old females ) , but it might also be a mallard with some American black duck genes - not a first generation cross, but these hybrids are fertile and can backcross to either parent.

    I think it is very difficult to truely assess this bird from these blurry photos ( no offence meant), as there is the problem also of hybrids and to some extent also the possibility of escapes from other Oxyoa species. Assuming the bill is seen correctly it seems the bill is more ruddy duck...

    Only now seeing that, it is a mallard variant ... wether this has some spotbill genes from domestic duck breeds ( some domestic Asian breeds seem to have some spotbill genes) or weather this head pattern can also arise independently , is not clear to me ...

    Thanks , that is interesting... google search did nor yield such birds for me but from the ebird link it is clear there are some more such birds ....
