Swedish Lapland - where should I go?

( I may be late to the thread since the eBird list I found probably IS Meg herself) Rather sparsly populted area. The Siberian Jay last appeared at a place East of Kiruna. At least https://ebird.org/hotspot/L8184786?yr=all&m=&rank=mrec It appears to be some kind of science outfit with a little...

    How Do You Pronounce ____________?

I used to think of Prothonotary as a type of notary. If we have secretary birds, why not a notrary?

Glasses wearers - most comfortable 10x42 you have found?

I only have one pair of Bushnells, 10x42, left. I rarely use them in summer. In the fall and spring I will use them for shorebirds and sparrows. I see the entire field of view with those. They are the cheapest ED glass ones, from 10-15 years ago.

I've had these a few months but used my Monarch 5s on my recent travel. I've taken them out a few times. The strap on my Nikon Monarch 5s has been replaced, so I don't know the length originally. It is now about 40 inches on the 5s. I'm 6 foot tall and these M7s were hanging over my belt. I cut...

Best tripod head for spotting scope?

I typically use a cheap one piece tripod, as my 65mm scope is not that heavy. But one leg broke off and I could not find that tripod on line anymore. So back to a 20 year old Manfrotto tripod and standard panning manfrotto head. I got it at Amazon as shipping was free. But I would not rate it as...

    Carrying tripod/scope

I used to have a cheap tripod for a 60mm scope. In some areas I would ditch the scope under a tree and pick it up at the end. It broke. I now have a manfrotto head on a manfrotto. I put the scope away in my pack but have to carry the tripod around. I will use binoculars one handed and then put...

Disappearing Into Finnair: Finland 2022, birds, butterflies, dragonflies and big predators

A friend from town is going to Finland next year. She is planning on doing all the East Finland stuff you did. My trip will be much less organized and no great expense. I won't have a car. My friend has done all her husband's Finnish genealogy and is looking up some of his distant cousins on the...
