A Review of Eden's 8x42 HD Binoculars by Steve Campsall Sometimes life takes a pleasant turn. It happened to me recently when I received an email asking me to test and review a pair of birding binoculars called Eden 8x42HDs. I have been a keen bird-watcher since a child and developed a passion...

And the very best of health, to you and your family, too, Tanny. Wonderful. Your writing about nature and natural events is reminiscent of John Clare and has hints of Thomas Hardy. Do keep it up.

Nice photo, Tanny - and I didn't think you looked like that! For poetry I think you need an inbuilt sense of rhythm and I just don't have it!

Well these cheery messages have brought warmth to my heart! Have a lovely Christmas Day, all! I got a spade and a pair of secateurs. I think someone's dropping me a hint. Mind you, with enough wine to set up in competition with Tesco's that's maybe another hint... No birds but here's a poem...

Happy Christmas Poetry Lovers! The Bird's Carol From out of a wood did a cuckoo fly, Cuckoo. He came to a manger with joyful cry, Cuckoo; He hopped, he curtsied, round he flew, And loud his jubilation grew, Cuckoo, cuckoo, cuckoo. A pidgeon flew over to Galilee, Vrercroo He strutted, and...

A nice poem from Davies, Andrew and from Dickinson, Nerine. Ah, I wonder if Davies's poem isn't rather wish-fulfilment, though? Either that or he was very young (or very old...) when he wrote it. The Auden poem is very crafty... I like it! Aren't the Dickinson poems a contrast with their...

Beautiful words and sentiments, Bob. Thomas wrote well, for sure and this is him at his finest. How light and airy he makes the poem.

A fine celebration of spring, Nerine. Clare must have used some of his poems to lift his spirits - as he has succeeded in lifting mine with this one. He certainly paints a snapshot of May that excludes much of what poor rural folk's lives were like in the 1800s. I suspect this is one of his...

It's one of his most famous from the early works. It reveals more and more each time I read it, I find. There are a number of great poems like this in his early collection - "Michael" is another. Wordsworth was far more radical in his early days: " Bliss was it in that dawn to be alive, But...

Yes, I think he did write that about Wordsworth, though neither poet was writing about nature exactly, I suppose. Here's a beautiful and poignant poem from Wordsworth - one of his early (1798) great pieces of writing from Lyrical Ballads: We Are Seven A simple Child, That lightly draws its...

Two lovely poems to read on a rather sad Monday morning, sad because the younger of our two cats, a companion of nearly seventeen years, is nearing his last! Poor thing, but he doesn't seem to be suffering at all. I've just fed him some warm milk with a syringe. Cat Poem They will not go...

Notepad is a part of Windows, Colin, so you should have it as a part of the operating system (if you use a Mac, I expect it has similar software). the beauty of it is that it reduces all formatting to "Plain text" which is ideal for web pages. The Throstle is a pleasant poem, isn't it...
