Poll: March theme challenge - Voting Booth

Tried to view the entries several times just now. Each time it read, "Could not find the server." Everything else is working on my end.

    Please critique

Terry, It is a lovely photo and I agree with much of what has been said. Talking about the technical aspects, the only distraction for me in the bg is the stick coming up through the bird's tail (as it were). It also appears to be oversharpened, a bit too much USM perhaps. Brian

    Canon EOS-1D MkII 8mp announced

Official US price for the Camera is $4,499 on the www.dpreview.com website. (Now where did I put my piggy bank?) On the lens, the EF 28-300 F3.5-5.6L IS USM, it is $2,499 US and Euro price. Not sure on the other one, but I believe it is around $1,499 US and Euro.

    Year's Best theme??

Steve, Well, I know you have fixed it up, but I do not have a problem with what you obviously consider your own non-concise writing. I am not necessarily an idea person like you, but do appreciate your ideas. Sometimes, actually many times, ideas need more explanation to help the reader catch...

Nikon D70 DSLR spec and review now available

Chris, Is there still time to return it? With PMA just around the corner, you could still get it if you do not like the new models. Regards

Nikon D70 DSLR spec and review now available

All the same, you might want to wait for Canon's annoucements (tomorrow probably). And not the expensive 1D that is coming out. Odds are favorable that the 10D will be replaced this year. Also, with Minolta coming out with a dslr that the sensor has image stabilization, probably in the fall it...

    Year's Best theme??

Steve, If I understand you correctly, how would one have time to look through all the photos? With the five per day limit, and with all the members that are posting to the gallery, I know I certainly do not keep up with probably 95% of the postings, so I have missed many of the good shots...

    Announcing January 2004 Theme/Challenge...

Widowmaker, I would have to agree with you on that ("The competitions I have watched went from by the book to completely in the opposite direction on this one."). Ian has alluded in the polling thread about easing up some (or something to that effect), so probably we will have to wait to see...

    Announcing January 2004 Theme/Challenge...

I know I may be out of place here since I am not one of the mods, and certainly not trying to offend anyone, but if the rules are shaved down anymore than one might as well put "Will accept any entry for the month of February." I am not trying to be flippant about it, rather logical instead...

    Stunningly good bargain Bins

Well, as much as I hate to admit it (shows my age), if you were to say "Bee's Knees" to me, I would know exactly what you are talking about.

    EOS 1Ds image quality

    Appreciate your response Nigel.

    EOS 1Ds image quality

Nigel, Really hard to argue with that image quality. Have you had a chance to compare it with the image quality of the 10D? I know that is like comparing apples to bananas, but still wondering if you have had the chance and formed an opinion. I know the 1Ds will be superior, but being the...

    Canon EOS 300D

While the 300D is a nice camera, do remember that it is an entry level dslr (which might be exactly what you are looking for, I don't know). Also, while the 300D is receiving favorable reviews, I have not seen rave reviews of it. So if you have those, I would appreciate it if you could provide...

    Announcing January 2004 Theme/Challenge...

Re: As far as missing something, nope, that was my fault, now corrected. As far as not having a yard, Christine is spot on. (Rule #15) Bill, good question. I will consult with Ian on that one and let you know.

    2003 Year List.

Utah USA 2003 Bird List Well, seeing how Strix has joined in from Wisconsin, I will venture another US 2003 list. I will attach my list in case anyone comes to Utah s/he can gain an idea of when they can see what. This is the first year I have done this, but will continue to do so now that I...

    Panasonic Lumix FZ-10

Glyn, Thanks for posting that link. I personally do not care for how it has been manipulated for the resulting quality. Too bad we cannot see what it originally looked like. As has been commented elsewhere though, there is a lot of noise in this photo.

And the winner of the December 2003 Competition is...

Alicia (and others), Yes, the photos will stay with the individual user gallery, though be moved to a different category (i.e., Bird of North America, Birds of Britain and Europe, etc), except for the winning entry which will be moved to the 2003 Competition winners category. The process will...

Voting Booth - Dec Photo Comp

Wow, 146 votes as I write this. That is great. Thanks to all for taking the time to vote. Whilst many truly do vote for the one they like the most, historically on similar forums it has been found that person A likes person B and therefore votes for person B regardless. This also holds true...

Voting Booth - Dec Photo Comp

I agree, I think some of the borders were particularly amazing and I admire those people's talents. Just a note, Ian and I have discussed this and we are going to leave the photos in the competition forum for a few days AFTER the voting closes to allow people an easy place to find them and...

Voting Booth - Dec Photo Comp

Annie, while we always encourage people to stretch their photographic talents, I could not agree with you more. We wanted truly the opportunity for anyone, including those good film users out there, to stand a chance to win. Happy holidays all!

    Mega-zoom Digital Camera?

Sorry I did not check back on this John. Did you decide on a camera? To better explain what I said, of course every camera, even a 35mm, has a sensor (though they are not all the same nor are they all created equal). This is what captures the image. The professional dslr's, as a whole...
