I see that Fujilm KF 8x32 seller on eBay gives Eye Relief as 14.5mm, but there is more than enough with glasses which would be equivalent to "17mm" or "18mm" for me, so that I have O rings in place under the eyecups -

Cheers Arthur, as we say 'down the pub'. It depends, but judging by Mars bars, or in our case eggs, inflation might be a lot worse than that. Here a dozen eggs have doubled in price over just two months, if you can find any. Some say it's BREXIT or COVID or Putin, but maybe it's just bird flu! -

Yes I did get to try the Noctivid but it was annoying to find that the slightly stiff/new focus actually had several degrees of free play so decided not to swap, also SF and NL and was impressed by their wide field but not enough to exchange for the older EDG. You made good points and the UV... -

@CharleyBird, that's sort-of what I realised but it was too late to remove more than the most embarassing bits :) @Binocollector, that's just the sort-of thing which prompted me to come out again! I reckon 'cheap' can be pretty good too, while the top brands could not really be 10x or even 20x... -
Product Review: Oberwerk SE 8 x 32 ED.
From Oberwerk's web site the 8x32, 10x42, and 12x50 SEs weigh 1.75, 2.0, and 2.25lbs (bare) respectively i.e. in steps of 4oz or 113gms. While they share the same main body and a similar <> 4mm exit pupil, it is the objective barrels which vary, but weight is just part of the story. Optics... -

Today I had the chance to compare Fujifilm KF 8x32 with a huge but lovely pair of Swift Stormking 7x50 (independent eyepiece focus) which has once on CN forum been called 'the best Swift binoculars ever made', and thought the little KF came off best. That's interesting although I did not find Sightron clones, including Kenko Ultraview 8x32 OP DHII, to be dim, and when price comes into it it's quite hard to find anything decent below £150. Unfortunately, at least in Uk, Kenco binoculars are quite hard to find although the occasional one...- chris6

Do I want an EII 8x30?
EII is light and beautiful, a bit old school but also has sharpness and contrast with a giant fov. Definitely you want EII if you don't wear glasses, but otherwise the roll down eye cups are too much of a nuisance. -

Yes the new one is black. I have always suffered the usual quandaries over magnification and objective size, while the physical size comes into it too. I like the size of 32mm but get a much easier view with 42mm and have decided that 8x is indeed the happy medium. No surprise there then...but... -
