Female Redstart ? - Corbett NP, India 1-2-10

By the side of the main road north of the Dangardi Gate near Mohan. Spotted feeding on the road, it then flew up and perched on a stump. Initial impression was a very grey/green bird with an obvious chestnut brown tail and rump - I'm thinking female Redstart but which species ??

Bird Guide - Playa Larga - Chino ?

Does anyone have an email address for Chino or any other bird guide in the Playa Larga area ? I'm going over in February and need accomodation and a guide sorting out. I've tried [email protected] which bounces with 'too many hops' and [email protected] and got no answer...

    Rome without bins

I've just come back from a short trip to Rome, and I was banned from taking my bins as this was a cultural holiday. Without binoculars I managed to see - Swift, House Martin, Sand Martin, Kestrel, YL Gull, Mallard, 'Italian' Sparrow, Turtle Dove and Bee-Eater. Ones that got away - a big raptor...

    Sj7284/7285/7384/7385

Not exactly Cheshire's birding hotspot, but over the last few months I have been surveying around this area, for the Cheshire and Wirral breeding bird atlas project http://www.cheshireandwirralbirdatlas.org/ It lies either side of the A566 to the west of Rostherne Mere straddling the M56. I...

    Parakeets in Frodsham, Cheshire ?

Went to the Weaver Bend and Frodsham Marsh today. Nothing of interest, apart from two Parakeets that flew over my car, at the back of the No. 6 tank. I stopped and leapt out as they flew away. They appeared greyish with a huge white wing bar and possibly a orange/pink face. Any ideas ?

    Madagascar - September

I'm thinking about a trip to Madagascar but the flights seem horrendously expensive. Apart from Air France and Air Madagascar are there any other scheduled flights there ? Also is the end of September too late for Whale watching - we'll spend a few days on Ille St Marie for a rest and hope to...

Weird locations - A6 slip road Chapel en le Frith

Managed to see the Great Grey Shrike today at Chapel en le Frith. It was flitting from one bush top to another, along the slip road off the A6. Got a few weird looks from passing motorists and the odd pip from various white van drivers !

    Audenshaw reservoirs

Private Property, Keep Out, beware of the killer guard dogs. It's a real mystery why birds keep getting reported on Birdline yet this is site is off-limits to the great unwashed. United Utilities alledgedly have a permit system but it is impossible to find out how to get one, and I work for the...

    Dumfries and Galloway RFI

I see there's no heading in the Scotland section and I couldn't start one there. I'm planning a trip up to Caelaverock in a couple of weeks, staying in the Castle Douglas area. Hopefully see some Geese and the Red Kites at the feeding station at Bellymack (?) Farm, and some waders down at...

    Pennington Flash

One of the best places for birding in Greater Manchester. Today I saw 40 species in about an hour - highlights being a Kingfisher and 20 Goosander. The Flash is a large lake formed from mining subsidence and there are a number of hides around the place, one overlooking the 'spit' which was an...

    Radio transmitter Peregrine ?

I saw a large Falcon at Martin Mere (Lancashire) on Sunday. It was very dark underneath but I'd say it was a Peregrine. On it's rump seemed to be a shiny metal disk thing and it seemed to be trailing a wire. Anyone know anything about radio tagging wild Peregrines or is this an escaped...

    Marbury No. 1

Very quiet today - no waders whatsoever on Marbury No. 1 and a single Green Sandpiper down on the brook. The footpath was closed but still a number of dog walkers around. Looks like they are building a wide gravel path/cycle track down to the Anderton Boat Lift and generally making the whole...
