    Hen Harrier Day 2018

Hen Harrier Day seems to be an elephant in the room for birders, I posted the following in a couple of Yorkshire Birding groups. With ten days to go before the Sheffield event and seventeen or eighteen for the rest of the country I thought I'd post it here as the sentiment still applies...

Marrakech, Morocco Feb 2018 - Ecocide in action

I did a lot of searching around the interweb before this holiday and found very few references to birding in Marrakech other than a few sightings whilst people were on their way elsewhere so I feel compelled to make it quite clear what it can be like. This is not a review of birding in Morocco...

    Camera Bags

I currently have a Lowepro 400AW, fantastic in some ways and not so in others. Fantastic- Light, rugged and I really like the access via the back. After sales service is fantastic as one of the buckles is too small and prone to breaking. Not so - It's billed as an outdoors bag so where is the...

    Amsterdam area

I'm going to Amsterdam next weekend and hadn't expected any birding beyond chance encounters. This looks like it might change so if anyone could suggest some birding opportunities in Amsterdam itself and others in the wider area via public transport I would be most grateful.

    100-400 MkII Lens mount

Anyone else having problems with the build of this? I removed mine to allow easier fitting of some neoprene covers, since then it has been nothing other than a problem. When the knurled nut is unscrewed and the bottom part removed there is a small black plate fixed with four tiny screws, it...

    Birds of Aragon

Use this site each year, normally in summer when there's a bit of overlap between our birds and the Spanish ones. I can get through to the index page (http://www.ibercajalav.net/actividades.php?codopcion=2251&codopcion2=2502) but when I try find info for a specific species the download fails...

    Satellite tracking

If you had the chance to slap a tracker on any species, which would it be and why? Torn between common swift and a storm petrel. Swift because I'd love to know how far my local birds go when foraging and the petrel because I'd like to know where they go during the day time.

Lesser Kestrels, La Janda Spain October 2012

Would appreciate confirmation on the Id of two birds First bird (P1 and 2) actively feeding on insects, pale base to primaries, spotting to breast on the sparse side. Adult female? Second bird (P3) I'm less convinced by. Had an unusual flight pattern compared to CK I'm used to, picture...

    Ebro Delta

Head off in a fortnight, staying at Roda de Bara near Tarragona. Opted to hire a car for once so going to Ebro for a day but will also be looking for a few hours early each morning before the family get up and the temperature rises. So any current info of the area or places within a short...

Thought I'd set a couple of puzzles. Hopefully there is enough information in the picture for an id, always easier to see it when you know the id.

    Ebro Delta

We are having a family holiday near Taragona in July and I plan on a day trip to the Ebro Delta. I will be using public transport to get there so the best option seems to be a train to L'Ampolla and limiting myself to the coastal path along the north of the delta. I would probably be happier...

On ITV now, birdwatchers featured heavily. Blue crested Hoopoe has landed in Midsummer causing a bit of a stir. Hilarious.

    Tern confirmation Filey, Yorkshire

Think this is an Arctic in winter uniform, red of the bill showing through, short red legs, a bit tatty mind. Taken yesterday. Cheers

    Dark Ringed Plover

This bird stood out from the rest at Rimac on Sunday. Very dark, smaller than the rest, not much of a supercilium and far more obliging. Thought tundrae at the time but any thoughts on race much appreciated.
