    No more Kerso

I see Kerso has stopped trading. The flashcamera website says due to family circumstances. Don't know how long that has been the case but very sad news and whatever has happened I hope Ian pulls through it all ok. You were a great help to us all on the UK camera scene and a true gentleman. :t:

    Deterring Mallards from Garden Pond?

Can anyone suggest any ways to deter Mallards from coming into our garden ponds? Don't really want to get netting like you use to stop Herons as the garden birds need to use the ponds and likewise the frogs have to be able to get in and out.

    ID UK Orb-weavers

Can I get some additional input on these. All were taken here in West Lancs (well the second was Marshside RSPB Southport which is bizarrely in Merseyside). And only no.2 was adjacent to water (albeit in a hide) the others were not. I think the first 3 are all Larinioides but which ones. The...

    ACR question

Is there any way you can open and then edit JPEGs and TIFFs in ACR or does it always automatically open them into Photoshop proper?

Martin Mere feeds in the snow

Was at Martin Mere WWT today and the 3:00pm Swan feed was truly something to behold. These are pretty cutthroat, undignified affairs at the best of times but the snow really takes the whole thing up a level. The mad scramble for the grain, the march of the Shelducks and the vicious peckings...

    Seeland Wellies?

Been looking through the wellies threads cos I'd like a good solid pair of walking wellies that I can actually get around in comfortably for long periods and I didn't see any mention of Seeland. Has anyone got any experience of these? Price and quality wise they seem to be in line with Hunters...

    King of the Garden?

I was wondering who is the undisputed lord of everyone's gardens that nothing dares to try and bully, by which I don't mean raptors just which birds can eat in peace and not have to worry about other birds muscling in. Here Blackbirds are pretty much king of the ground as they are more feisty...

    Faroe Islands?

You know I've always wondered what the Faroe Islands might be like for birding and nowadays photography? Anyone British ever been? I imagine it'd be great for seabirds and at this time of year might get a lot of similar stuff to the Shetlands in terms of vagrants with maybe something...

    Mass of dead crabs

I was in Redcar last thursday and on the beach there must have been covered with thousands of dead crabs washed up on shore amongst the seaweed, most having been already devoured so I'm assuming they must have all been dead before the birds had at them. What would cause such a mass death of...

    Stick or Twist?

Make no mistake I love my current pair of binos, a pair of Zeiss 10x40 BGATs. Despite their age I think the image through them is touching on the performance of top end modern binoculars (having tried them side by side with older Swaro 8.5x42 EL's), they are also pretty lightweight and compact...

Close-up filters on a macro lens

Has anyone ever used a close-up filter on a macro lens to get that little bit more. If so were the results any good? Cheers. B (:

    200-400mm MKI + TC query

Can anyone with one of these tell me if you've ever tried it with a 1.7x or the newer ED 2x and comment on the IQ. Is the lens sharp enough to take either of these TC's? Particularly interested in the 1.7 though cos it's quite a bit cheaper. Kind thanks. :t:

    The Deadly 60

You know I'm not sure if this has been discussed before but if you want to watch one of the best wildlife series of recent times then watch the Deadly 60. It's an old series but is endlessly repeated on the children's BBC TV, which is CBBC including BBC 1 sometimes at 3:05pm weekdays. I've long...

    Crop lenses on FX bodies

Is it only Nikon DX lenses that automatically change to DX mode when used on FX bodies or do similar lenses from other makes like Sigma also do it without having to manually set it? Also, given how expensive a truly wide FX lens can be are there any downsides from using a crop lens on an FX...

    The 5DMKIII folks

Here ya go http://www.dpreview.com/news/2012/03/02/Canon-5D-Mark-III They've also announced a new Flashgun http://www.dpreview.com/news/2012/03/02/Canon-EOS-Accesories 6FPS is perfectly usable and with the same AF system as in the 1Dx like I mentioned on the other thread it could be a nifty...

    Elements 10 vs NX2?

My choices for new editing software would probs either be Elements 10 as I'd be most familiar with the layout of that but would that be able to accommodate the latest version of ACR to convert D4 RAWs or NX2 which I've seen some conflicting reports about for editing. Anything anyone can suggest...

    Brand Jumping

Is there anyone who has switched from from top end Canon gear to top end Nikon gear of late and can comment on whether, in hindsight, they think it has helped them with their photography. I want to upgrade my kit and I'm very close to moving back to Nikon but at the same time I'm tempted by the...

    Additional Input Sought

Can I just check with Nikon owners that this mount is 100% ok. Especially in the first pic where there is that drop-off, nothing has been sheared off there or anything has it? Much obliged.

    The D800 and the D800E

Don't ask me what the difference is (it's down to the Anti-Aliasing filter apparently, or rather the lack of one in the E) but they're now official http://www.dpreview.com/news/2012/02/07/Nikon_D800_D800E_launch £2400 is the price. Not too shabby in my book.
