    Thanks folks! I think the particularly vibrant stockings in this photo may be due to the fact that breeding has just ended and they are still wearing their glad rags, an effect possibly aided by the early morning light.

    Thanks Ken! Been a while since I posted here, but I had to share this bird. This is the first time I've seen one, they're in a conservation park down here, and not shy because they're used to humans dropping in with cameras.

    Breeding season is over, the young ones are able to look after themselves, and the stilts can now spend the rest of the summer standing about looking photogenic.
