    Strange Snipe from Denmark

Thanks very much for your valued opinions. I will put it down as an extreme barred "gallinago". Cheers, Helge

Unfortunately not, this is all I got!

    Strange Snipe from Denmark

I flushed this snipe at Kalløgrå, Denmark, on Aug.25th, 2020. I really think the underwing-pattern looks like a Wilson's Snipe. Any opinions ?

    Dowitcher from New Jersey

Thanks Paul and Tom for your good arguments! Reed's Beach is a pure saltwater-habitat, the bird was on a pier together with a Grey Plover and 1200 Dunlins. Didn't hear any voice though!

    Strange Hawk from Florida

I saw this small Buteo hawk near Everglades in Florida on April 8th, 2017. My guess is obvious red-shouldered due to the location, but I find the bird very strange looking. The plumage is much lighter than I would expect from an immature RSH, and the dark eyes indicate an adult. What do you...

    Strange Locustella warbler

From Denmark today, it looks like a classic River Warbler, but it sings like a Grashopper Warbler... ? se video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nJ974WEOfo&feature=youtu.be

2 more warblers from New Jersey

Thanks for the help! I can't say that Bird 2 is definitely a warbler. Oct. 15th was a good day, and more than 15.000 passerines where counted in the morning hours https://raptor.specteo.com/cape-may-bird-observatory/morning-flight/ Regarding Prairie warbler I can see on the statistics form...

2 more warblers from New Jersey

Continuing with my warbler flight shots, I found two more. Taken at Higbee Beach, Cape May, Oct.15th. Both photos in early morning-light which can exaggerate the yellow color. Bird 1 - I am thinking Cape May or Prairie ? Bird 2 - I am thinking Blackpoll ?

    Warblers in flight, New Jersey

Bird 2+3 The more I look at the photos of bird 2 +3, they seem to be two different species. In included photo I put them side by side, so bird 2 is top row and bird 3 is bottom row. It seems like bird 2 has a much longer tail, and bird 3 longer undertails coverts - they seem to be rather...

    Warblers in flight, New Jersey

Warbler 1 Thanks James, Blackburnian seems a possibility also. I include an image of a Black-throated Green in flight taken at the same place same week and also in morning-light. On bird 1 I would expect more blackish on throat for BTG, and also stronger stripes on the flanks ? Also it seems to...

    Warblers in flight, New Jersey

Spend last week in Cape May, New Jersey. In the mornings I tried out flight shooting at Higbee Beach, and several of the warblers I have not been able to identify. Here are three different birds - any clues to their identity ?

    American Warbler - help!

    American Warbler - help!

A warbler from Cape May, New Jersey last week (Oct.15th). When shooting it, it was among several Palm Warblers, but this one looks like something else - maybe a Cape May Warbler ?

    Dowitcher, New Jersey

Thanks Andy and Larry, Long-billed was also my initial reaction (due to rather plain breast), but I am not that familiar with their range in Eastern US (rare ?). I didn't pick up any sound...!

    Dowitcher, New Jersey

Found this single Dowitcher in Brigantine (Edwin B. Forsythe NWR) in New Jersey on Oct. 10th. Is it a Short-billed or Long-billed ?

    Brown Phylloscopus from Denmark

Hi Ken, I agree that your two birds looks much more like a "lorenzii" than "tristis" - especially no.2. This year we have had a long period of warm winds from East - perfect conditions for at "lorenzii" to get to West-europe.

    Brown Phylloscopus from Denmark

Thanks Alan and Andrew. When looking in Svenssons fieldguide it looks a lot like "lorenzii" - why not that one ? The tristis I have seen have been very drab, can they be this brown ? Cheers, Helge

    Brown Phylloscopus from Denmark

Shot this very brownish Phylloscopus yesterday in Denmark. In the field it striked me as very brown (ala Dusky Warbler, so I had to check the leg color to rule that out). I couldn't see any green or yellow on it. It was in company of several tits and Common Chiffchaffs. I didn't notice the...
