    more limestone/sandstone than granite, but there are granite outcroppings in a few areas.

    grey squirrels are much less carnivorus than (american) red squirrels who often kill nestlings and steal eggs, that said, greys occasionaly do take the odd nestling here or there, but they are hardly what id call a major predator of any animal species, save possibly for certain insects & grubs...

    i think grey squirrel predation of songbirds might be a bit overblown, grey squirrels here (in their naitive range) rarely if ever predate songbirds or their eggs (something thats much more commonly done by our red squirrel) i cant imaginethat once their in the UK they become insatiable bird...

    the uk reminds me of the maritime provinces of canada in this respect. both areas where overfished to the point of collapse and the governments did/do nothing till its too late. now the bay of fundy is almost devoid of cod and that fishery has collapsed. i can only think that this will happen...

    looks like what we in the states call a least weasel, and since that species is the same as the british "weasel", the aforementioned ID is probably correct.

    ive noticed alot of similarites in some areas of the world that are thousands of miles apart. the northern great lakes region (northern minnesota/wisconsin/ michigan's upper peninsula & northern lower peninsula) of the US has its counterpart in the russian far east...

    snowberries are good if theyve ripened enough. cranberries and various blueberries/raspberries/bearberries grow wild here and are delicious.
