    Pentax 560mm f5.6 announced

My thoughts on this would be a DA lens, a* designation would put the lens beyond many peoples budgets, it goes without saying that the lens will have SMC coating and possibly the newer dirt repellent coating too, weather sealing would not really add much to the cost as it would be relatively...

Old non AF lenses on K200

It's a a common misconception that old lenses wont stop down on modern DSLRs, but the stop down mechanism is still there, even modern lenses stop down via a mechanical linkage from the camera body when the shutter fires. The so called "crippled" mount on modern bodies are missing a second...

    Backlight problems.

Try pointing the camera at some evenly lit grass and locking the exposure just before you take the shot, it wont give you a spot on exposure but its a quick fix thats often better than trying to adjust settings and missing the shot.

    Pentax A*300mm

I have been using Catch in focus but so far have not got it mastered, I prefer to manual focus where I know something will land then rely on the DoF to make up for discrepancies, obviously I need days with good light in order to stop down to f11 or even f16 This lens has a very long throw on...

    Moth Trap Ghost Image problem

Have you got a UV or Skylight filter on the front of the lens? try removing that.

    Ricoh to buy PENTAX

Funny you should mention that because thats exactly how I got into Pentax, I was looking for a system that would give me Auto Focus and Olympus wasn't offering anything at the time that I could use my Om lenses on, so I did a bit of research and discovered Pentax had retained backward...

    Warbler ID UK

Thanks for taking the time to look at these folks. I should say I made a mistake in my post, I did mean to say I thought the second shot was the Chiff Chaff and not the third, I really should pay more attention to the order I upload the images|:$|, but if you guys think Willow Warbler then...

    Warbler ID UK

Caught quick snaps of three birds today (22/7/11), obviously Warblers of some sort, taken at RSPB Fairburn Ings. First one I think is a Garden Warbler?, the other two I'm a bit confused with, is the last one a Chiff Chaff? Sorry about the poor shots these are crops of about 1/6 the original...

    First post

Nothing much wrong with these other than they could do with a bit of post processing, or a bit more if you've already done some. You just need to keep snapping and improving your technique really.

    A Couple Photos to Critique

I cant see that a tripod would have helped any of these shots, in my experience any subjects like this would have been long gone well before you'd set the tripod up and got into position. Capturing good macros of these beasts takes time and patience and like most other areas of photography also...

    My First Bird Photos

The softness in the images could also be down to camera shake, long lenses can be difficult to hold steady and even when maintaining a suitable shutter speed you can still have problems. Try a monopod to assist stability, you can pick them up quite cheaply and if you find it works well then...

    Eyes Left or Right?

I can appreciate some of the waffle that photographic judges come out with such as "Highlights in a corner will drag your eye away" or "The base of a picture needs to be darker than the top to give it some stability" or "you've cut the landscape in two with that wall and theres no gate for me to...

    Critique/advise on what good needed

Hadden, Only you can decide which images you like and which you dont, take pictures to please yourself and not someone else. However if critique is what you want then I have to be perfectly honest and say you have too many images in that link to ask people to sort through and give critique on...

    Ricoh to buy PENTAX

Err, they managed to produce the K5 which has kicked some ass and shown the other big two that they are not the underdog everyone assumes them to be;) They also managed to finish the development of the 645 and finally get it onto the shelves, all this despite the fact they could have dropped...

    Pentax A*300mm

I've just aquired the "almost" legendary A*300mm f4 weighing in at just 850grams and only 132mm long this is one awfully compact lens given its focal length. This lens could be anything from 22-27 years old but aside from the lack of AF it works a treat, took it down to Fairburn Ings today to...

    Blue Tit

Just a snap while trying out a new (20 odd year old) lens, I really need to get used to manual focus again.

    600mm with SR

I use SR when the Bigma is on a monopod or even if I'm resting on a solid surface, IMHO both will still generate enough movement to warrant use of SR, as I believe will the use of a Gimball. Tom, isnt it about time you upped to a K5 and made your rig a bit lighter|;|

Restoring colour to Black and white images

I'm sorry but I have to agree. the process cant even be reversed in the camera, once the filter is applied your stuck with the effect. At least you cant make the same mistake shooting RAW as the camera cant apply filters during capture. As for mistakes I spent an entire long weekend in Prague...

Jessop MC 1.7x Pz/Af - Whats it worth?

Sorry Craig, just seen this post. I wasnt aware Jessops had sold a PZ converter, if its one that will power the new SDM lenses (they use the same contacts) then it would increase the value, otherwise I would suspect about £25-£40 depending on who produced them. I can ask around other forums and...

Sigma 50-500mm OS for birdi photography

I have a Non OS EX DG 50-500 in Pentax mount, nothing wrong with the IQ. I have also tried it with a Sigma 1.4 Converter and I have to say I am not impressed with the results, I have found cropping produces a far better images than using the converter. For sample images, all the bird shots in...

    Best place for Nuthatches

It wont be a special trip guys, I'm setting off for Scarbro' on Friday and staying over for the Goth Festival in Whitby, I didn't fancy a two hour drive on Saturday morning and then traipsing round Whitby all day so found a reasonable B&B and figured twenty minutes up to Whitby fro Scarbro' was...
