First day of winter break started today for me. Got to see a King Eider in Ohio which was very nice, some Surf Scoters and ummmm a Peregrine Falcon. It can't be counted anymore because it has been extirpated (last ones died in 02) however I'm pretty sure if you saw it before it was extirpated you can still keep it on your lifelist. True, ABA committee has different standards for what they will or won't accept. For example with the Black-hooded Parakeet. I think you can yes, go back and count them if you want to. For example if Fox Sparrow is split you could go back and count both the new species. As far as extirpated populations, I believe they are still countable. For example the last Crested Mynahs in Vancouver died in 2002 but they are still...- BiggSkua

Well i figured the NC Texas part, but that is quite a big area. Should still be able to find some good birds, but I can understand the frustration. Florida is good for White-winged, Budgie and Monk. I don't know about other places outside of there. Yellow-chevroned I didn't think was countable anymore, but I might be wrong. Red-crowned and Green are hard, the countable ones are vagrants from Mexico, but there are lots of uncountable ones...- BiggSkua

More diversified??!?!?! More intersting!?!? Come on, I beg to differ. Look at the US, birds range from Boreal species ( Snowy Owl, Black-backed Woodpecker, Boreal Chickadee etc.), to neotropic birds, ( Green Jay, Crested Caracara, Montezuma Quail) and nearly everything in between. Hey, Just wondering how many people on here from the US,Canada, Mexico or the Carribean use eBird. If you don't - you should. Wow, Sounds like a nice day. Interesting to be in a place where you can see Hummingbirds and Gyrfalcons in the same day. Usually when I think of Gyr's the birds that come to mind are Northern Hawk Owls, Bohemian Waxwings, Hoary Redpoll and other such northern species. It must be nice to see...- BiggSkua
