    Yellow-breasted Bunting?

I suspect these are actually House Sparrows. Nothing visible in the photo contradicts this and if you lighten it as much as you can one or two males show the head pattern

Atlas Wheatear - Oenanthe seebohmi ?

Contra to my post 6, I believe that there is enough here to say it is Finsch's - whch is certainly more likely, too. The slightly stocky structure - including large bill - and plumage is within the range of Finsch's. Brian

    Sandplover - Cyprus

Bill still too small for colombinus imo - see ML615829297 - Greater Sand-Plover - Macaulay Library I agree with Grahame Brian

Atlas Wheatear - Oenanthe seebohmi ?

like this? ML615090822 - Finsch's Wheatear - Macaulay Library perhaps a good call, but it does look male apart from pale lores

Atlas Wheatear - Oenanthe seebohmi ?

On first looks it certainly looks good for Atlas Wheatear, but as others have written it does look quite dark grey above compared with the pale, powdery blue-grey of adult males - could this be down to exposure? The black side of the neck crossing from black throat and wings (reminiscent of...

Possible Hanuman Plover. Yala, Sri Lanka. Nov 23

Mine from there over a number of Nov visits are like yours - maybe a little better - and look like seebohmi too. Brian

Possible Hanuman Plover. Yala, Sri Lanka. Nov 23

Hi Stuart In light of Peter Kennerley's images on eBird - Kentish Plover (Hanuman) - Anarhynchus alexandrinus seebohmi - Media Search - Macaulay Library and eBird - and as he knows a thing or two about these birds, I would probably ID yours as seebohmi... Brian

    I would agree, Menetries's Warbler

    Unidentified warbler

A simple ID as Chiffchaff based on length of p1, which is long - much longer than primary coverts. WW has a short p1 - equal to length of Primary coverts.

    Sykes`s Warbler ?

Muratfaik You write like you have read a lot about Sykes's, but not very experienced in seeing them. Graham has correctly identified this and I can't see anything that makes me think rama. In addition to Graham's assessment, the tail is proportionally way too short. Look at this image from...

Finsch's vs Variable Wheatear - Uzbekistan?

IMHO this is a Finsch's Wheatear. Female Variable can be pale, but is still duskier than this about the head, notably on the throat extending on to breast - whereas here the throat is as pale as the rest of the underparts. There is often a fairly obvious pale winge bar on great coverts...

Kenya, Nairobi National Park, Lark or Pipit?

Butty Your comment is interesting as there are very few photos of juvenile Rufous-naped Lark. The images here, though scalloped, are fine for very fresh adult. One issue is the variability of individual feather pattern on Mirafra larks, but actually there is a juvenile image on BF (bird on...

    Latest IOC Diary Updates

I am working on a paper for British Birds and wondered, given that both Dutch and Swedish taxonomic committees have 'split' Buff-bellied Pipit' into American Pipit Anthus rubescens and Siberian Pipit Anthus japonicus, if IOC have any upcoming proposals that are likely to affect their treatment...

    Iran / Warblers

In response, I am unsure you gain an accurate view of the primary projection in these photos. The outer rectrix is well short of tail tip, which though variable is more likely in Sykes's and the pattern of a broad and diffuse pale tip and inner edge is typical of Sykes's. The extension of P1...
