    Bee ID

I have plenty of Honey Bees in the garden and this Bee doesn't seem to fit the template of, to my experience, Western Honey Bee. I have looked at Furrow Bees and even Pantaloon Bee but some how keep coming back to being a Honey Bee, ID appreciated.

    Roadrunners Uvalde / Concan, Texas

All being well I will be out in Texas in the spring and the number one target for my wife is Roadrunner. I have a few sites where they occur but nothing that seems to be regular, such as Fort Inge, but if there other locations nearby that are reliable I would be grateful for suggestions.

High Brown Fritillary - Where's better: Heddon or Alun Valley?

Looking to try and connect with the last fritillary I need for the UK, High Brown Frit, this coming weekend and trying to work out which is the better site to visit. Both seem to have a reasonable population but whilst I can see information on Heddon Valley, difficult steep bracken...

    Cloudbirders - website make over

I went into the Cloudbirders website today and see it has been updated and had a make over. Some it I'm not sure about, which I think will need some tweaking, whilst other aspects are an improvement.

    500mm f4 L USM mk1

500mm f4 L USM mk1 - Canon UK Support I can't see a thread on this so I'll start this one, apologies if this has already been covered. Canon UK are no longer supporting the 500mm F4 L US MK1 lens, this support ceased in December 2017. If you have one of these lenses, and there are still a lot...

    Vignetting on 100-400mm Mk2

Has anyone else experienced really poor vignetting on the Canon 100-400mm at 400mm. Just got this lens and used on both 1DX and older 1DmkIII and there's just an awful amount of vignetting. I tried it out before I bought one and now given it a go properly finding I really don't like it; poor...

    Canon 1.4x mkIII issues

I recently updated my 1.4x extender to the mk3 however the mk3 doesn't always work on my 500mm F4L (mk1). There is a little play/movement between the lens and the extender or camera body if no extender used but all has been working fine, until the mk3 1.4x. When the camera and extender are...

Hi All Does anyone know of a guide who will be familier with the sites around Kaolack in Senegal for Scissor-tailed Kites, Quail-plover and Saviles Bustard as looking at potential combo trip with Gambia upriver trip, maybe this November but most likely next year; just thinking ahead now there's...

Fair Isle : Living on the edge

These seems to have gone unnoticed, mostly probably because there's not much about birds on it but there is a short piece around the Obs, petrel ringing, Lancy chasing and Raddes Warbler and Bluethroat twitching about 10-15minutes into the second episode. Shame there wasn't more about the Obs as...

Everything works until the point I...

    Egyptian Plovers

A quick question around connecting with Egyptian Plover. I know birds will starting moving away from Kaur Marshes by mid January however will they still be present by the 10th January or will a trip to Basse be required. When will it be likely that the plovers will not be gettable. I'm again...

    Tern ID - UK

I've been passed the following record shot images of what was described as Black Terns. Image is of just one of the birds but this looks more like a Whiskered Tern to me though the bill seems a little on the long and slender side. Am I going mad Whiskered vs Black Tern Cheers

    Raptor in Ethiopia - December

The attached images were taken in South Central Ethiopia in December. The bird was circling high over dry acacia scrub by a wide sandy river. Very Honey-like but the pale upper primary bases are puzzling. It was large buzzard/small eagle size. The bird was not seen/photographed by myself o I...

    Canon 500mm F4 MK1 Lens Hood

My existing lenshood was damaged due a drop a number of years ago with a fairly sizeable crack along its length. Whilst I have taped the outside of the hood and have a lens coat on it it is still less rigid than before and can see the crack/damage getting worse. I have attempted to tape on the...

    Spotlights

I currently have an old 1million candle power spotlight that only last around 30minutes when in use before it fades. This is a heavy spotlight with a heavy charger pack and for an upcoming trip I am looking at lighter, smaller alternatives that still have the brightness needed. I understand a...

    Texas targets

Next April I have a planned trip to Texas that will be taking in the Hill Country, Big Bend and High Island, not the Lower Grande Valley though. Whilst this is my 3rd trip to Texas, following a winter trip and High Island only trip my birding companions will need many more species than I will...
