    First Chiffchaff of the year

    Saw one chiffchaff on saturday morning by teatime there were 2 catching insects on the arch in the garden. Stayed around till sunday. Blackcaps (2males &1 female) not seen today. Redpolls and siskins still around. Had 3 brambling briefly on the tree at the bottom of the garden today.

    Redpolls arrived yesterday a day earlier than last year (2007-Feb 12) in our Bristol garden. Been visiting our garden and next door neighbours' garden three years in a row now. Always wondered how they find their way back to our garden. Any idea?

    Goldfinches unusual behaviour.

    There are 12+ goldfinches regularly visiting our garden. Yesterday morning after their breakfast of sunflower hearts and nyger seeds they all flew to the brick wall on the side of the opposite house and was pecking at the brickwork. Some of them did the same this morning. Is that normal?

    Good photo. In Southern India they are ( both lesser & greater) much frequent and totally ignores humans. Noisy too, sings oop oop oop.........
