    Winterwatch 2024

I was amazed to hear all about the Portuguese Man o' War. I didn't know anything about them. What extraordinary creatures. Ron

    Winterwatch 2024

I am very much enjoying this year's Winterwatch. It has come a long way from the tedious roaring Red Deer stags which dominated the early series. I also really appreciate Gillian's contributions these days. She seems like a completely different presenter when she can work on her own using her...

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

If the coating fails on my EL 8x32 FP I might ask my other half to knit or crochet some little woolly jackets to slip over the barrels and tie in place with ribbons. They would be nice and warm to hold and should offer a degree of protection from knocks and scrapes. I am sure we can find some...

I'm sorry, but the Curios aren't serious bins

That is a pity. Perhaps the last line of the saies blurb on their website is prophetic: "expect the unexpected". Ron

    Springwatch 2023

I agree with others that it was the best Springwatch so far – very enjoyable and informative viewing. It was definitely a good decision to move away from Norfolk this year as the weather here was dreadful – cold, windy and cloudy for most of the time. It was rather galling to hear them crowing...

    Turning on flash for OM1

I don't know if you have noticed but some extra replies to your query on 'E Group' forum state that it is possible to use flash with electronic shutter. It has to be enabled in the menu and there are some restrictions on sync speed. Ron

    Iolo’s Borderlands - 3rd April 8:30

I really enjoyed it too, although I wish there could have been more than four episodes. I like his casual presentation style, just wandering about and commentating enthusiastically on what he sees. His knowledge of all things to do with natural history seems to be limitless. I can't help...

BBC science and natural history TV

From the clips they showed when David Attenborough was on Winter Watch 'Wild Isles' promises to be a stunning series. Ron

    New OM-1

    Norfolk birding

Another unexpected encounter on my walk along Gorleston prom today. A superb female Kestrel was moving along the prom perching on the railings and flying onto the grass, the beach and the prom itself picking up insects and other food. It was a great source of curiosity for the people present and...

    Frozen Planet II

I agree, the footage of the Golden Eagles hunting the Chamois was totally amazing. I was so captivated by their skill and intelligence I didn't even feel sorry for the prey! I also thought the section with the avalanche was terrifying and the drone photography was as good as it gets. We are...

    Norfolk birding

A nice surprise on my regular walk at Gorleston seafront today was this Red Throated Diver feeding in the river by the harbour bend. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me so these shots with my phone are the best I could do. Ron

    New OM-1

As Adey said, you can switch off the L-Fn in the Button Function menu with the following sequence: MENU > Cog Symbol > 1. Operations > Button Settings > Camera Symbol Button Function. You should then be able to scroll to and highlight the L-Fn symbol. You can then scroll to and select the Off...

    New OM-1

I use a Think Tank Digital Holster 30 v. 2 with my E-M1 II. I think it is about the same dimensions as the 50 apart from the top. The 50 is really designed to accommodate a body with a grip attached or a larger body such as the E-M1X. It is worth looking at both versions though. Ron

    New OM-1

I have just been playing with the settings on my E-M1 II with the 300mm f4. I have disabled the MF Clutch in the menu and then assigned the Function button on the lens to 'Manual Focus'. Pressing the Lens Function button repeatedly then toggles between Manual Focus and Autofocus. You have to do...

    New OM-1

I don't have an OM-1 but according to page 104 of the manual you can disable the MF Clutch in the menu. MENU > AF > 6. MF > MF Clutch. I have the same problem on my E-M1 II with the 300mm f4 but now if the camera refuses to focus I immediately check the clutch ring. I think the problem is that I...

    New OM-1

No, it is on back order everywhere with lots of customers waiting for their cameras to arrive. There is also a backlog of spare batteries and battery grips. One or two people have had to send their cameras back with problems, which doesn't help. I think OMDS were overwhelmed by the high demand...

New Zeiss binos 8x40 SFL and 10x40 SFL

I received an email about them from WEX this morning. 8x40 is £1550 and 10x40 is £1600. They sound interesting, especially as the Swaro EL 32s are no longer on sale. Ron

    Winterwatch 2022

Thanks Euan. Apparently Gillian has personal commitments which prevent her from appearing this year. She will be back for Springwatch. Ron
