Swarovski service, again
One of the objective covers on my 8.5x42 EL Field pro was showing signs of wearing out I contacted Swarovski through their website a replacement plus two spares arrived within week FOC. Just great service. -

Scope and camera tripod and head
Hi I also use the Manfrotto 500AH which I find to be great. I have it mounted on a Manfrotto MT055CXPRO3 carbon fibre tripod. I did this combination works really well with my Leica Televid 77 with a 20-60x eyepiece.- nodd

EL 8,5 or 10x42.
I also use the close focus as well. I think it shows how small differences are in the optical performance when you are talking about the EL and NL. I know the NL has a wider field of view which seems to be the latest thing to persuade people to buy the latest offering from binocular... -

I bought a pair of 8.5 EL’s after looking at the 10x as well. I found the difference not to be that great for me. I went for the better low light performance of the 8.5x. Like all these decisions it’s comes down to personal preference and intended use. Either way they are both a great pair of... -

Swarovski 8.5x42 purchase
That’s a good deal you have there. I bought my 8.5 x 42 just before the launch of the NL. Not such a bargain price wise but was happy to pay what I did at the time, for a stunning top of the line binocular. I love and use the close focus. I hope your binoculars bring you as much viewing pleasure...- nodd

Swarovski NL 8x42 - First Impressions
I wonder why Swarovski now include a brush and soap for cleaning the exterior of the new NL, will this be needed on any of the other of their binoculars? Has any thing been mentioned by the reps regarding the brush and soap? -

I am one of the people that make use of the close focusing capability of my pre NL, EL Field Pro. I find it useful within my work as an Ecologist when doing surveys. Going down the route of carrying more than one pair of binoculars is not a practical option. I appreciate that that not everyone... -

Lee, I agree with you. I think the EL Field Pro image quaility possibly had little difference to the NL,even with the NL increased FOV. The EL Field Pro in the format prior to the alterations would possibly had an impact on sales of NL. I think this is part of the fall out of deminishing turns... -

Hi Dale, Thank you for clarifying this I thought this was the case for the change in spec. I can only imagine the amount discussion that went on to be able to keep the iconic EL in Swarovski’s line up. I have had a pair of EL field pros now for about five months and am very pleased with them... -

Just re checked the data sheet for the EL and these coatings are listed SWAROTOP, SWARODUR, SWAROCLEAN, SWAROBRIGHT so this is the same as the pre NL. -

For want of a better expression they appear to be dumbing down the EL to reduce cost of end product because of the small difference other than field of view and change in ergonomics. 20% price reduction is a lot. Changes most likely will come in with new production run of EL. The 32mm modules... -

Swarovski appears to have tweaked the spec of the EL (The Legend) now not called the universal viewer. Maybe EL in the Field Pro format was too close to the new NL I’m glad I got my pair of 8.5 x42 Field Pro 5 months ago as I do like the close focus distance it has. -

EL close focus distance change?
As an update the over view information has now been changed to 3.3m so the EL has undergone a change. Maybe so as not steal sales from the NL and to give the NL one more selling point close focusing. -

I see that Swarovski has altered the specification of the EL(The Legend no longer the fold pro) in that that close focusing distance is now 3.3m compared the 2.0m of NL. One way of stopping one of you products competing with your new star subtle changes in specs and name. I am glad to have one...
