    Which Lens?

Hi, I was thinking of buying the Canon EF 400mm f/5.6L, but didn't know if I should just buy the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L and buy a 2x teleconverter with it. What's a better choice? And what other lens are good under 1000.00 dollars. Thanks for any help.
