Best Birding Places in Las Vegas

Depends if you are meaning central or can travel out about 10-20 miles? There are some very good places around. I would very much recommend a couple of the sites mentioned in the link in the previous post. Henderson reserve and Corn Creek are very good places indeed. Almost anything can turn up...

    Best locations world wide

I've not been but Cap Rhir in Morrocco seems to be getting a reputation for some tricky seabirds lately. See Jos Stratford's recent report in the Vacations section. The lighthouse NW of Tarrafal on Sao Nicolao, Cape Verde was good. Fea's, Little Shearwater of both types, Cape Verde Shears plus...

Somerset - last week of May

There were Corn Buntings, quite a few in fact, near a village called Marshfield, which is a few miles NE of Bath, the winter before last. I guess they breed in the area which looks suitable. Edit, actually N not NE of Bath and in South Glos. not Somerset

    RFI: Cologne, Germany

Many thanks chaps. Looks like we'll probably be stopping of at Maastricht on our way back to Calais. Any idea which direction I should be looking at when I get to this spot, or is it obvious?

    July Moths

Really enjoying having a new garden to trap in. I dont trap in it every night, but 10 nights since late June have got 130 (100 macro, not brilliant on the micros), or so species to the 15W actinic I run. Personal highlights have been Wood Carpet (my second), Dark Spinach (2nd again), & Devon...

    July Moths

NMN for me was at Birches Farm, Herefordshire nature trust reserve (a new one) on Saturday night. It was a sort of mini-bioblitz event, there was a mammal guy and a batwoman looking for their stuff too, and about 30 kids, who were fascinated by the moths, and the traps (which attract small...

I have a California Quail in my garden South Lincolnshire

Definitely an escapee. Despite being limited naturally to the west of North America, it seems to do well in other places as long as we take it there. I think there are populations that are now self sustaining in New Zealand, South America and Corsica as well. Maybe England next??

    Possible trip to Norway

Just pondering my next trip, having been to Iceland recently and missed Gyr (again!) the Lincoln's Sparrow was some compensation though! I thought Norway might be a place to finally track my nemesis down. I realise no-one is ever going to reveal precise summer locations but how likely is it for...

Trip advice - Raptors SE USA April 2014

I remember most of the raptors on my April 2012 trip to Florida were fairly easy to find. Around Lake Kissimmee we easily found Bald Eagle, Caracara, Swallow-tailed Kite, Red shouldered Hawk and Northern Harrier. Snail Kites are harder to find and you have to visit the Everglades (Northern part...

    Yorkshire Birding

I'm guessing after Kite and Buzzard, the next most likely largish, dark raptor in the area would be Marsh Harrier.

    Yorkshire Birding

Bolton Abbey this morning Went to Bolton Abbey Woods early this morning and covered the stretch N & S of the stone hut between 7 & 8. Pied Flys were showing well by a couple of nestboxes, and I think 1 pair of Wood Warbler in the area just to the N of the hut. Certainly heard their mournful...

    Quick Trip Report 5/25-6/1

Back from our trip to North Carolina. I really enjoyed it! The highlights were the 3 pelagic trips we took on Brian Patteson's boat out of Hatteras. 16 species were recorded once out to sea. Common Loon, immature individuals up to 10 miles offshore Black-capped Petrel, about 60 birds, some...

Best Site for Pelicans (late August)

Hello, I'll be flying into Thessaloniki and travelling down to Athens in late August. I have a couple of days to bird the far North/North West and would ideally like to see good numbers of Pelicans of both species. Lakes Kerkini & Prespa would seem the places to go, but which one would be best...

    Ebro, Belchite/Monegros & Pyrenees

El Planeron 10/5 Visited yestoday. Duponts fairly easy, in locations detailed by rosbifs. Was able to get out and scope plus video from 'car park' area. Other birds included both Sandgrouse, 5 other larks and a few migrants around the lagoon (rained overnight). Chough, Lesser Kestrel and Tawny...

    Ebro, Belchite/Monegros & Pyrenees

I'll be visiting Belchite primarily for Dupont's on 9&10 May, so can let you know what I see then. I think Moustached Warbler is always avaliable in the Ebro delta, certainly I've seen them in December and March visits. John
