    2017 UK orchids

All three are out at the moment. Very few Monkey's though as its been far too dry. Think I saw max of 3 flowering and total numbers tiny compared to other years.

    Orchids in Cyprus

Try around the Akamas peninsula for Serapias and the hills around there for other orchid species especially Ophrys. I took a tour around there last year. Some great plants to see, even non-orchid ones!

Thanks for your thoughts. As you say its not a 100% classic example. Certainly the closest I've ever come across! Cheers Ian

They look like some plants I came across recently, again in a field that holds both species. The added complication there was the addition of southern marsh orchids in the mix too! I think we need a portable DNA analyser!

Not that I am aware. The pure white version is a variety though.

Been down to the seaside today to see how the dune helleborines are doing. None in flower (as expected/warned) and probably a week or more before they are out.

Hi Not been on here much this year so havent been keeping up on whos been where and whats flowering. I'm considering my options for this coming w/e as I'm heading to Cheshire. Yes a terrible photo! Why choose that blurred mess? Perhaps it shows they were not really that interested...

Interesting that it made the newspaper. Not many plants manage to do that! The article states it was found 14 months ago but how long before that was it there? The other question is whether it will survive and return in future years. Many other sites of just a single individual seem to...

Twayblades now in flower in Norfolk. Found one of the three leaved variety trifoliata too. Sadly the flower spike had been broken off and had gone possibly eaten? Also found a bee orchid rosette growing strongly. This one was nicely protected in a wire cage!

Hi Rich Thanks for the info. Yes I saw the other photo earlier on today (great shot Benjamin). It just reminded me of some Mediterranean Ophrys species which have yellow borders too e.g. Ophrys sphegodes ssp epirotica or ssp aesculapii + some of the other species too. Obviously our UK plants are...

Nice photos there. Your first photo shows a very yellow margin to the flower. Is that a common feature of the plants your saw or a one off? I thought UK ones were more like your other photos? (I'm yet to see this species in the UK) Cheers Ian

Hi Does anyone know of any good Autumn Tresses sites in the Chilterns (southern half) that they can PM me about? Pretty certain that I've seen some info in the past but looks like I've lost it! Thanks Ian

That's interesting Rich, I always thought the lip had to be whole without 'lobbing'. Maybe a plant I saw the other night counts then. I shall have to check back... Ian

Simon I value your openess and love your books but I hold the opposite view regarding how open we should be on forums such as this. You have only just joined this group but are already trying to alter how it runs. Its been very successful in helping its users in discovering like minded people...

The sheep were there on Tuesday evening. I was also surprised by their presence at this point in the growing season. I have come across this practice before and wonder if, after a few years absence, its actually necessary for sheep to be present at this time to maintain a balanced sward? Anyone...

Hi Rich I saw this message earlier on this evening when travelling home on a very boring train journey, so have had a little bit of time to think what *might* be happening. Its a great question! The bottom line is that I cannot give a definitive answer, but it is likely to be related to gene...
