    Sichuan Birding

FYI, I just uploaded my two sound recordings of the Grey-bellied Tesia at Emei Shan to Xeno-canto (recorded a minute or so after Roland's recording): http://www.xeno-canto.org/189135 http://www.xeno-canto.org/189136

    Birding around St. Petersburg, Russia?

Hi all, I'll be in St. Petersburg (Russia) for a couple of days in the beginning of July. Not a birding break - just seeing the city and all. However, I might be able to slip in a morning of birding at some point. Does anyone know if there are any interesting spots in or near the city? If so...

    Travellingbirder....??

Ouch, Travelling Birder seems to be down again. Hadn't visited in a while, but kind of needed it now. Also, my own trip reports were on there and are now no longer findable on the internet. Time to find a new place, then...

Lammergeier, Steppe birds, and lots more - Spain, May 2012

Just a little follow-up on the trip above. Adam (Dr_ADH), Rob (Arbu) and myself participated in this short Catalunya birding trip with Stephen from Catalan Bird Tours. Visited the Garraf Massif and an area near Llobegrat delta (day 1; late morning and afternoon), Ebro Delta (day 2), steppes of...

Lammergeier, Steppe birds, and lots more - Spain, May 2012

Small update: we're now with two people (i.e. one space left) and extended it to a 4-day trip (possibly including Ebro Delta). This also means the costs p.p. have dropped for anyone interested. :)

Lammergeier, Steppe birds, and lots more - Spain, May 2012

Hi Adam, Yeah, definitely still looking for someone to join. My fourth day would indeed be the 29th (I'm at a conference in Barcelona before the 26th). Not entirely sure about the displaying little bustards. We should definitely see them, though. I'll get back to you on that. Best, Sander

Lammergeier, Steppe birds, and lots more - Spain, May 2012

Spain, May 2012 - Lammergeier, Steppe birds, and lots more Hey all, I have a three day / two night trip booked with Catalan Bird Tours in Spain from Saturday, 26th to Monday, 28th May 2012. They can accommodate one or two more birders if anyone's interested in sharing costs (I certainly am...

Texas (US) in April - spring migration

Can't seem to find the edit button anymore, but anyway, this thread is not relevant anymore. I'll be going to Tennessee for birding instead of Texas.

Texas (US) in April - spring migration

Hey all, I'll be in the US for work in early April. As it's the season for Spring migration, I figured it'd be nice to do some birding afterwards. Spring migration in Texas (High Island/Upper Coast) caught my attention: tons of migrant warblers (25-30 species) and waders, along with some...

    Netbooks

Several newer netbooks are 11.6-12.1" and have a screen resolution of 1366x768. That's slightly bigger than earlier netbooks, but it means more keyboard space, and they're better for watching movies and looking at/editting photos. And even 12.1" and 1.5 kilo is still pretty portable, in my opinion.

    Netbooks

The relatively new Asus Eee PC 1201N gets great reviews. See e.g. http://www.laptopmag.com/review/laptops/asus-1201n.aspx for a detailed review. It's a bit more expensive than other netbooks, but it's fast (can even play HD videos) for a netbook. I'm thinking of getting one myself to take along...

Sandpipers and Plovers in Netherlands Antilles (Caribbean)

I do not dare to say with 100% certainty whether or not the birds in #1 and #2 are the same individual... I thought so when photographing (I think), but I don't recall this exactly. How about pic 3-11 - you agree that's a Least? And what about picture 9? (see the URL I posted in my original...

Sandpipers and Plovers in Netherlands Antilles (Caribbean)

Thanks for the info! I could look up the exact date, but these pics were taken near the end of July or beginning of August.

Sandpipers and Plovers in Netherlands Antilles (Caribbean)

Time to bump this post and see if time has brought us new ideas. ;)

    Yellowlegs

I'd say Lesser as well, mainly based on slender appearance, short bill and lack of barring on the flanks. Bill might seem slightly up-turned, but this is not a very definitive character. Also, I could be wrong but a three-note "tew-tew-tew" call could also be a Lesser. I'm judging from my field...

    Sandpiper in western Montana USA?

Yep, Storm-Petrel is right - it's a Virginia Rail (adult).

Sandpipers and Plovers in Netherlands Antilles (Caribbean)

3x Wilson's Plover seems correct to me, too. As for Least Sandpiper, that would confirm my initial suspicion. However, what about the Calidris species in pictures 1, 2 and 9? We've still got to solve those. ;)

Sandpipers and Plovers in Netherlands Antilles (Caribbean)

Thanks for your reply. When I first looked at these photographs (pic 3-11; see also link in my original post) a year ago, I also thought about a Least. I admit that this was mainly because I thought some pictures showed a yellow-greenish leg color. However, other birders I showed these pics to...

Sandpipers and Plovers in Netherlands Antilles (Caribbean)

Hi everybody, Last year I did some birdwatching on the islands of CuraƧao and Bonaire (Netherlands Antilles) in the Caribbean, just north of Venezuela. During a visit to the saltpans of St. Willibrordus, I photographed some Sandpiper and Plover individuals, which I still haven't identified...
