    Hummingbird in Panama City, Panama

This mystery hummingbird was taken in the Parque Natural Metropolitano, Panama City on Oct 10 last year. I've gone through all the expected hummingbirds at that hotspot and nothing seems to match up with the tail shape, bronzy tones on the lower back and fully gray breast. I almost wonder if the...

    Myiarchus in Costa Rica

Needing some help on this Myiarchus sp. in Guanacaste, Costa Rica from this week. The picture and recording are of the same individual. It was fiercely responding to Nutting's playback, but I'm not certain the recording is necessarily a good match for Nutting's, but I'm not real sure...

    Mystery recording from Costa Rica

A couple days ago while in the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica, near Playa Carrillo, mid-morning, I recorded the fairly distant but pretty loud bird song/call in the attached file. Ignore the incessant chipping, it's the bird that calls about 4 times that I'm interested in. Any ideas? I have no...

    Grasshopper/Baird's Sparrow (Arizona)

Good morning, On my trip to Arizona a couple weeks ago I was attempting to relocate some Baird's sparrows that had been found near the Chiricahuas. I flushed up a bird in the grasslands several times that was not like the typical Savannah sparrows. My hunch is it's either a Grasshopper or...

    Small hawk/falcon in Mindo, Ecuador

I studied this bird (taken Feb 8) for a bit and realized all the raptors that somewhat resemble this bird have a lot of variation. Any suggestions on the ID? I'm thinking it's got to be one of the following: Bicolored Hawk Semicollared Hawk Barred Forest-Falcon Collared Forest-Falcon

Tyrannulet/Elaenia type bird in Mindo, Ecuador

I'm having some trouble with this individual from Mindo, Ecuador on February 7. Any ideas? Has a fairly clear light-colored line in the center of the crest, and a little colored tuft at the rear of the crown.

    Bird in Mindo, Ecuador

I'm rather puzzled by this bird that doesn't seem to match anything in my field guide. It somewhat resembles a Pale-legged Hornero, but clearly has a different bill shape, facial pattern, etc. Taken Feb 13 in Mindo, Ecuador.

Vegetarian or Large Tree-finch? - Galapagos

The first image (in the tree) was taken on the rim of the Sierra Negra volcano on Isabella, the one on the ground was at the Darwin research station. I'm leaning towards the one perched in the tree being Large Tree-finch and the one on the ground being Vegetarian. The one on the ground was...

    Blackbird from Amazonas, Brazil

I was browsing through some of my photos from Brazil and noticed this bird that I apparently reported as a Velvent-fronted Grackle. That seems off to me now. Perhaps just a Shiny Cowbird? The bill seems fairly pale, but that could be partly due to the way the sun is hitting it, and just bad...

    Red filter for flashlight

So I need some creative ideas. I have a flashlight that I use for owls and other nocturnal wildlife (not interested in debating using flashlights with owls), and I'm thinking a red filter will be better for my eyes and that of my subjects. I don't want to get a separate flashlight, I like the...

    Three birds from Costa Rica

Here's a couple shots from La Fortuna, Costa Rica from this last week that I'm struggling with. My closest guesses so far: 1. Really not sure... 2. Yellow Tyrannulet with a shorter tail?? 3. Yellow-olive Flycatcher? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Great Green Macaw in Manzanillo, Costa Rica

I'll be staying a couple days in Manzanillo, Costa Rica (south of Limon) for several days and I would like to see some Great Green Macaws. I noticed there's this Ara Manzanillo place where they say you can see them flying in the wild, but it's not clear to me if these are "countable" or if...

    Nightjar (?) call identification (Brazil)

These (bird?) were recorded in March around some houses in a tiny village along the river well after dark. Was never able to see any birds, partially because I didn't spend too much time looking around peoples houses. The exact location can be seen on xeno-canto. https://www.xeno-canto.org/444618

    More birds from Zimbabwe

Attached are a few shots that I'm having difficulty identifying. All taken in March and either around Harare or Masvingo in Zimbabwe. Any thoughts appreciated!

    Zimbabwe Africa Swallow/Martin

This bird was seen March in Masvingo, Zimbabwe. Very blotchy breast, not sure what to make of it. I'm assuming it must be a lesser or great striped swallow, but the blotchiness of the breast seems odd. See pictures attached to eBird checklist here: https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S50141532

    Queensland Australia birds

Two birds here that I'm struggling to definitively ID, both taken at Trinity Beach by some mangroves last week. I believe the last two shots are a Golden Whistler, but I'm unsure if the other whistlers can be ruled out. The first one is probably something common, but can't seem to think of what...

    Cayenne Jay in Manaus, Brazil

So I have a shot of what seems to be a Cayenne Jay from several weeks ago, but when I realized it would make it one of about 4 state records (and the only one with any documentation), it made me wonder if I've done something wrong. Any thoughts...

    Zimbabwe hawk/eagle

I'm having some trouble with another shot from Zimbabwe from March. Really can't find anything that seems to match.

    Zimbabwe crow-like bird

I'm having some trouble with this bird that looks like a crow, but doesn't seem to fit the description of a Cape Crow, which seems to be the only completely black crow in Zimbabwe. Thoughts?

    Bird from Mexico

Out of all the birds I saw in Mexico, this one has stumped me. I thought it was a tropical pewee, until I looked at the picture more and realize that doesn't make sense, notably, the very large eye ring. Any ideas? This was taken in the Yucatan peninsula in June this year.

    Zimbabwean wren-like bird

The attached images were captured in Masvingo, Zimbabwe during March. Sorry that it's out of focus, I was shooting through some foliage. Any ideas what it could be? I've really not found anything that matches...

    Hawk at Addis Ababa airport

A couple weeks ago I had a layover in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Amongst many doves and pigeons I snapped this image through the window of what appears to be some sort of hawk. Head seems to be lighter than the rest of the body. Fish Eagle would seem unlikely at an airport. Any other ideas? Sorry...

    Cooper's or Broad Winged?

I was looking back at my sightings from earlier this year and realized this hawk that I identified as a Broad-winged very well may be a Cooper's. Any thoughts? This was shot on April 5, in Berrien County, Michigan.
