    Bassenthwaite Ospreywatch for 2020 cancelled

Could be a bumper year for wildlife...

    Honey Buzzards

Look like Honeys to me. We have some in tiny numbers in the south of the county. Fabulous birds.

    Pallid Harrier breeds in Spain

Aye, that was present for a couple of weeks last May wasn’t it? Lovely sight in an otherwise tragically poor spot for raptors lately. Heartbreaking when considered what it used to be like....

    Scotland advice

Hi, I spend a lot of time in Scotland birdwatching and I’m a regular visitor to Mull. Plenty of the birds you mention are present on Mull but timing is as usual an issue. It’s a pity you can’t make the trip earlier when the breeding season is in full swing, always something amazing to see...

RFI south west Scotland - Newton Stewart area

Depends how far you wish to travel but Langholm Moor can be excellent for Birds of Prey - Hen Harriers, Short Eared owls, Merlin etc. Caerlaverock is a WWT centre on the solway- check out their website for what’s about at the moment. Moffat area has Ospreys and breeding peregrines by Grey Mares...

Possible red kite in the Lincolnshire Wolds?

Seems like it's a similar situation with the Grizedale Red Kites, not been the success story it was hoped to be.

Possible red kite in the Lincolnshire Wolds?

Hi Crix, I'd suggest it was maybe a Buzzard as they are pretty similar in size, a Red Kite has a very distinctive forked tail, if you saw this?

Invigorating optimism there, with that kind of attitude we should all just give up now.

    Isle of Mull....

Thanks for the info Dave. Down at Loch Buie there's an area with "Beware of Adders" signs up, only discovered it this year, didn't get chance of a proper exploration due to the aforementioned cleggs. Know where you mean, will have a check next month. Thanks again

    Isle of Mull....

They were everywhere when we were there, the week from the 25th of June, Smidge did a decent enough job but they would still have a go, talking to a couple who were walking back from Croggan and they had a swarm following them, in all the years I've been going it was easily the worst this time...

    Isle of Mull....

Thanks for that Dave, collerates with what we heard. The Na Keal were about when we were there, not doing much but were present. It was far from a bumper year however. Cleggs were horrific when we were there, never seen anything like it. Several adders? Good stuff, creatures of habit I know...

    Isle of Mull....

Thanks for the info, seen plenty over the years but never on Mull, despite many hours searching, Grass Point is one of our haunts but nothing doing there apparently for a while. Cheers

    Golden Eagles

There’s currently a Golden Eagle reintroduction project happening in the borders, all may not be lost, although I wouldn’t be anymore than hopeful that we’d see any in their original lakes area. Cheers

    Isle of Mull....

Not sure if there is already a thread for this, if so, apologies. Went in late June, we visit quite a lot, and saw plenty of Eagles, Hen Harriers , Otters etc. Saw a young cuckoo being fed by a pair of meadow pipits on the grass point Road, which was superb. It was unbelievably hot, we didn't...

Hen Harrier's as we all should be able to see them.

I hope this is the place I'm thinking about, after quite a few quiet years, this is fantastic news. Hope they are allowed to flourish.

Good Cumbria site for a couple of noobs?

Yes but personally, I have seen them regularly early morning and spasmodically at other times. That's a shame, hopefully it's not too bad, they are pretty new those hides.

Good Cumbria site for a couple of noobs?

We like to get there as close to dawn as possible, we tend to see them at this time of year before 9.30 but they can turn up anytime. Earlier you get there the best chance you'll have. If its iced over it can be really good for Bitterns as well. Good luck.

Good Cumbria site for a couple of noobs?

Leighton moss is an excellent reserve , if you can I'd get there as early as you can, go to Causeway or Lower Hides and you stand a very good chance of Otters...

Moore Nature Reserve may close down

Crying shame, spent many a happy day at Moore, I've moved now so haven't been down for a couple of years but was always a favourite. Peel Holdings have a certain reputation, hope they don't win in this case. Was always a good spot for Bittern in Winter and all 3 woodpeckers
