My hearing isn't what it used to be so, with some trepidation, I offer a guess: Black-and-White Warbler.

    Magenta Throat, East Coast

This winter and early Spring here in Gainesville, Florida, we had slightly more than usual numbers and variety of western hummers, currently one Calliope, one Black-chinned and 3 Rufous Hummingbirds. Video of the Black-chinned frequenting a feeder in my yard.

Rainbow Colored Bird in No Virginia--Identification Help

The OP said the bird had a RED head. Painted Bunting (male) has a blue head. An exotic cage bird is a possibility but I am going with House Finch plus some light effects.

Comment by 'dacol' in media 'Pileated Woodpecker'

Thanks all for your kind comments!
  10. Pileated Woodpecker

    Pileated Woodpecker

Male Pileated Woodpecker working on a tree stump in the backyard. The stump is the remain of a large oak that died in our yard about 3 years ago. It is close to our house and kept dropping branches. So we decided that we had to take it down. We (my wife and I) were very aware of its importance...

    WikiAves Brasil - error

Found this in https://neotropical.birds.cornell.edu/Species-Account/nb/species/blhtan1/systematics : "The genus Tangara is paraphyletic with respect to Thraupis (Sedano and Burns 2010, Burns et al. 2014). As a result, Sedano and Burns (2010) suggest moving many species of Thraupis into Tangara...

    WikiAves Brasil - error

All Brazilian tanagers in the genus Thraupis have been included in the genus Tangara (which I think preceded Thraupis). I am not associated with WikiAves but it follows the nomenclature of the Brazilian Ornithological Records Committee which has adopted the new classification. That is also the...

You are welcome! As Larry said, it was your excellent description of the birds, including behavior, that allowed for an ID.

A day trip from New York, October

My suggestion is a bit outside of your parameters but Cape May in New Jersey is a 3 hour drive from New York City. Early October is still a very good time to enjoy the concentration of migrants that CM attracts.

    Myiarchus ? to identify

I also vote for Swainson's Flycatcher. The back has a very gray appearance and the base of the lower mandible has a pinkish spot which is a characteristic of Swainson's Flycatcher. The pink spot can be seen in both photos.

Birding for the elderly in Arizona

True that the birding guides to Arizona focus on the Southeast. But you mention Tucson in your itinerary. Taylor's guide to southeast Arizona has good information on birding in Tucson. From personal experience I recommend Mount Lemon and Saguaro National Park - Rincon Mountains district. In both...

    Columbina do Brazil

Yes, this is indeed a Common Ground Dove (Columbina passerina). I am not sure which book you used. In the following I wil assume it is the Portuguese version of the WCS series "Birds of Brazil" for the Atlantic Forest of Southeast Brazil. The reason it is not mentioned in your guide book is...
