    dactylorhiza sp id please? (Guernsey)

Quote from Sue Daly's book "Wildlife of the Channel Islands" "The Southern Marsh-Orchid, Dactylorhiza praetermissa is easy to confuse with Heath and Early spotted orchids, a mistake made all the more easy by the number of hybrids between these three species" .... but Southern-marsh should...

Growing concerns over US oil leak (BBC News)

"Since when did Europe become such vehement defenders of capitalism and big money ? LOL !" Since we invented it in the 18th Century! I don't think big business can be trusted to do much more than to look after it's own interests and profit margins. Bp's massive profits are there because we...

Growing concerns over US oil leak (BBC News)

That's OK!.. No offence was taken My point, as always with Environmental stuff... was that there's always finger pointing and blame...but it's us... the consumer .... that provides the demand that drives big business, like BP, to take more and more risks. Whoever was responsible for this...

Growing concerns over US oil leak (BBC News)

I'm not going to defend anything just because it's got the word "British" in it's name.. it's nothing to do with me!

Growing concerns over US oil leak (BBC News)

As big business always says... "It's consumer demand". We demand the oil, they go looking for it in more and more risky places.. Accidents happen.. and are more likely to happen... and we blame someone else! .......when you're putting gas in your car, just remember the price isn't just in...

save the coast = set the ocean on fire...?

It's the unacceptable cost of oil... probably the largest pollution event ever... It could be spilling oil into the Gulf of Mexico for months! It's our addiction for oil that's the root cause... the more we demand it, the more dangerous the seach for it will be... it's not BP's fault .. it's...

Aye.. it's a weird guillemot! A genetic abnormality affecting the colouration!.. Darwinism in action!... If it works, it's evolution.. if it doesn't.. its a blip!

    In an Island garden

I love my job!...But one of the drawbacks of being a Professional gardener is that at this time of year..... it's head down and get on with it. Tempting as it is to check out every movenment in the shrubberies, every unfamiliar tweet in the trees... if I did the work wouldn't get done! ..And...

Is there a "bird safe" weed killer?

I think any of the non persistant glyphosate based (Round -up etc)weedkillers are fine.... from memory they say that they are safe for animals and children when dry. Ask at a good garden centre... read the instructions.. if in doubt don't use.. if you do it on a warm dry day and scare off the...
