    Trinovid hype

Whew - for such a goofy original post, a lot of discussion came from it. But I'm in no way surprised - I might as well participate 😀

Leica UV 8x20 versus Zeiss Victory 8x25

Do the 8x25 Victories still not come with an ocluar cover (rainguard)?

New / Updated Leica Ultravid HD+ coming

No, looks to be exactly the same hinge. I believe what you're noticing/reacting to is more of the hinge showing given the lack of armoring. And really, it would make no sense to redesign the hinge. It's about as good as it gets as is (unless the plastic bothers you).

    Curio Whoopsie!

I have a lot of thoughts on this subject, but just to start, the focus wheel... There are all sorts of focus knobs/wheels, and of course some (Leica UV's) are fairly complicated. Often I've seen simple focus wheels, like the Curio's, use a "ribbed" brass stem which the plastic wheel is pressure...

    Curio Whoopsie!

My question is WHY would Swarovski turn to a name designer to design a binocular? I think I know the answer, but I'd like to hear others thoughts. It would have been brilliant had Swarovski just added a 7x21 to the CL lineup. I'd be an owner right now and my 8x20 Leica UV's would be sold. I...

    Curio Whoopsie!

I never said Newson designed the focuser, nor did I imply that (wild speculation on your part lol). But he did design the housing that surrounds it. Is it possible that his design forced an in-house Swarovski designer to make some compromises in order to accommodate his design? Or is Swarovski...

So the Curio wasn't designed by a noted designer? It wasn't marketed on that basis? Yes, wild speculation...

    Curio Whoopsie!

I said "Perhaps" and "Dunno" (ie, I don't know). I have seen other Euro brands enlisting name designers for things like hunting knives... that's just not something you typically would see here. Apparently nuanced discussion is not your thing? Taking offense is certainly easier...

    Curio Whoopsie!

That's your response? Take a comment out of context and use it as a condescendingly as a weapon? Don't bother to deal with anything substantive? You seem to be an angry guy, and I can't help you with that... What I said in context:

    Curio Whoopsie!

John, I'd put the SLC's on par with Leica build (other than their cold weather performance is mediocre compared to Leica), but not the EL's. For instance, both managers at our local optic's shops reported quite a few failures with the EL's twist-up oculars (ie customers bringing them back with...

    Curio Whoopsie!

You know as well as I that there are no "facts" - the mfg's are not releasing repair/failure information, so all we have is anecdotal information. If you want to call that a "feeling" you're free to do so. However, in the case of the Curio's, they've been out a couple years and have well...

    Curio Whoopsie!

All my Leica's have been 100% issue free, from -30F to +100F going back over 20 years - and I use my binoculars HARD. Not saying Leica or Zeiss don't have problems, just that Swarovski seems to have more. However, my 1990's SLC's, apart from stiff focus in subzero temps, were great. Our local...

    Curio Whoopsie!

Just too many of these sorts of issues with the Curio - I certainly would love a 7x21 with great glass. If I had a Curio I certainly wouldn't sell it, but if I didn't I certainly wouldn't buy one. Swarovski has the best customer service and warranty because they need it. Others will see it...

    Zeiss T*FL 8x32 v Zeiss Conquest 8x32 - discuss!

I went to the Leica 8x32 HD in 2014, and that is what I continue to use to this day. The only reason I changed from the BR was because of the HD's Hydrophobic coating.

    Zeiss T*FL 8x32 v Zeiss Conquest 8x32 - discuss!

I owned an 8x32 FL back in 2009 for a week. I compared it side-by side with my Leica 8x32BR's. Over the week, in a variety of lighting conditions, both early morning, midday, and late evening, I compared the two on a USAF optics chart (as well as just normal viewing). Both were basically the...

    A few quick thoughts, 7X35 vs. 8X32

Great review and write-up - but then it's right in my confirmation bias wheelhouse! As I've written before, I'm a mid-sized binocular fan, and over the last twenty one years have primarily used an 8x32BN, 8x32BR and, currently, an 8x32HD. I wanted to love the 7x35 Retrovid, but alas its several...

Who would actually buy 7x32 Ultravids?

I have been lobbying Leica for 20 years for a 7x32 (or better yet 7x35) since I got my first 8x32 BN (and subsequent 8x32 BR and HD). The 7x35 Retrovid, while nice, just doesn't cut it for me.

Anyone else like Birds AND planes?

Like anyone with eyes, I LOVE the Spitfire. I was fortunate as a teenager in 1975, while visiting Greece, to sit in the cockpit of a Greek Spit. I was impressed how small the cockpit is!

Do you own a CL Curio 7x21? Must have accessories

A possibly simpler atlernative is to purchase the 8x25 CL ocular cover. Another member here reported it works well with the Curio.
