No, looks to be exactly the same hinge. I believe what you're noticing/reacting to is more of the hinge showing given the lack of armoring. And really, it would make no sense to redesign the hinge. It's about as good as it gets as is (unless the plastic bothers you). -

Just too many of these sorts of issues with the Curio - I certainly would love a 7x21 with great glass. If I had a Curio I certainly wouldn't sell it, but if I didn't I certainly wouldn't buy one. Swarovski has the best customer service and warranty because they need it. Others will see it... -

I went to the Leica 8x32 HD in 2014, and that is what I continue to use to this day. The only reason I changed from the BR was because of the HD's Hydrophobic coating. -

Who would actually buy 7x32 Ultravids?
I have been lobbying Leica for 20 years for a 7x32 (or better yet 7x35) since I got my first 8x32 BN (and subsequent 8x32 BR and HD). The 7x35 Retrovid, while nice, just doesn't cut it for me. -

Anyone else like Birds AND planes?
Like anyone with eyes, I LOVE the Spitfire. I was fortunate as a teenager in 1975, while visiting Greece, to sit in the cockpit of a Greek Spit. I was impressed how small the cockpit is!- Mac308

A possibly simpler atlernative is to purchase the 8x25 CL ocular cover. Another member here reported it works well with the Curio.
