    Lens for flight photography

My choice would be the Canon 300 f4 IS. Since getting this lens my 100-400 is hardly used. The IQ of the 300 is much better than that of the 100-400 (IMHO). I also have the 1.4 extender and this works really well on the 300. Also the AF on the 300 is quicker than that of the 100-400. As you...

    Which one - Canon Prime 400mm F5.6 or canon 100 - 400 IS L

Ian is really good, just ordered a 2x Extender, he was £50 cheaper than my pro dealer. I have had a few items from Ian :) Ian is Flash Camera on ebay http://stores.ebay.co.uk/FLASH-CAMERA

    Canon 400 f4, 400 f5.6, or 100-400 f4-5.6??

Out of those i would go with the 400 f5.6. I have the 100-400 and IQ is not a patch on my 300f4 The 400 f5.6 has a good rep, and good IQ The 400 f4 is a lot of money when you will probably do as I did and want/get a 500 f4 at a later date.

Review by 'PeterUK300' on item 'Eos 1D MkIII'

This is a great Camera (Now). I was an early adopter June 07 and did not get the Camera I paid for until my third copy December 07. Thanks to my Pro Dealer for exchanging the faulty units rather than having to suffer repairs.

Which bird book should I get to help me identify UK birds?

I would recommend "The RSPB Complete Birds of Britain and Europe" by Rob Hume for home, fantastic book and for the field "The RSPB Pocket Birds" by Jonathan Elphick & John Woodward . Get them both from Amazon for £26 ish

    More lens advice.

I use a Canon 300 f4L IS USM plus Canon 1.4 extender and get good results. This is a great combo and within your budget.
