    Wren-ish, West Beach, South Australia

Had a new face visit our local patch on Saturday - in fact at last 4 of them. Sat low on branches and reeds, just above the water level of the local lake, but very flighty / hoppy, so difficult to get a good pic. These are the best, with a lot of cropping. Thanks.

    Black-shouldered Kite.

I must start this by saying that I have never had a good, confirmed sighting of a raptor near my home. That all changed yesterday, driving home past Adelaide Airport, we sighted a hovering raptor. We were able to turn around for a second look and, from the black under the wings, were able to...

Woodswallow / Butcherbird? - Queensland, Aust

Another bird we are uncertain of, from out trip to Queensland last month. Two options we have considered are the juvie White-breasted Woodswallow & the juvie Butcherbird (pied or grey) - but neither are clear. Aussie Desert Comes To Life

As most know, the "Outback" of Australia is a harsh, dry & desolate place. This is my "back door" & not good place for birding - unless it rains. Recent floods in Queensland have now flowed to Outback South Australia, putting water into Lake Eyre. Somehow, tens of thousands of waterbirds -...

I am relatively new to birding and have been getting by with a Kodak DX 6490 digital. I have been reading about adding a telephoto lens, by way of a lens adapter - not perfect, but all I can afford at the moment. I have read on the internet about quite a few people using the, but no one says...

I was out sailing over Easter and was fascinated in watching an airborn battle between a bird I had not previously seen (or at least noticed, having only started birding last year) & a tern. My subsequent research suggested to me that the attacking bird, all brown in colour, may have been a...
