extension tube lenght alters focal lenght?

at the moment I have approximatedly 10-11 cm extension tube lenght (80mm and pushed out a bit, as well as the camera mount adapter out a bit. one of the photos below was taken at 300mm (zuiko 75-300) the other with the 600mm celestron 80ED, and sitting at the same spot. Sensor plane difference...

TS Apo Pistol Handgrip ASH101 Beta 1

Well, here is the rough draft. Haven't yet tried it in the field, only indoors. The weight balance is obviously off, putting great strain on the wrist, thus it feels heavier than it is. The biggest drawback - not the grips fault - is that you only are able to thumb-focus in small increments...

A BETTER upgrade than the new oly 300mm f4?

Perhaps. Perhaps not. But for me I think so :-) A hide for water birds, to zoom "with my feet". And a shorter - the ts apo 480mm, for a wider view. Though it might be to long, but it all depends. Had planned to build a home made "Hidrohide" first - even bought all the materials - til I...

    Astroscoping, art of the past?

Am I right? With the affordable 150-600 lenses (Tamron/Sigmas) I've seen less and less interest in astroscopes. They may not be comparable optically - for the same money - astroscopes (apos) being sharper, but I guess the 150-600 are good enough, and user friendlier. The reason I brought...

    Brambling chaffinch hybrid?

Not sure where to ask this, so I try here. Might this be a hybrid? Looks like a brambling (male first winter) but sounds like a chaffinch (http://www.birdforum.tv/action/viewvideo/4429/Brambling_chaffinch_hybrid_/?ref=cango) He had a female chaffinch after him the whole time. Thanks for any...

(helical?) I understand that one would have to use the side wheels to focus roughly, but...

    Gimbal with astroscope

Have been looking at gimbals, and have one question to those of you that use one with astroscope. How is balance affected while manual focusing? As I understand it, the gimbal functions with achieved balance. But the way an astroscope is focused - back and forth on it's rail - surely it must...

    dslr to match a refractor

whats needed and whats not? superduper fast AF? Noo... Multiple focus points etc? Noo... Good iso - and I mean not "iso 25000" etc, but GOOD iso, where the feather details remains. Yees... In body IS? perhaps...(we always shoot on tripods, but perhaps when scope is loose, IS works ok) Would...

    celestron 80ed and olympus e-3

so it finally arrived, and I took it for a test drive on a sunny saturday in Tyresö (castle) 20km south of stockholm. I must say that I am very very pleased. They are not perfect, but with more training, i'll probably get there with this set up. (and some luck/sun) nuthatch, iso 100 1/400th...
