    New Viper HD's

An update - I've now been using the new 8x42 viper HDs for about a week. I followed the good advice above and ordered the vipers and the meopros. Optically, I couldn't see a significant difference between them. I'm no expert at teasing tiny optical nuances apart, but both had fantastic...

    New Viper HD's

Thanks - I'm in need of a new pair as my old ones have finally started to fall apart in a way that makes them hard to use. I'm intrigued that the new Vipers may approach that sweet spot of value/cost, at least for my needs and budget.

Has anyone actually seen or reviewed the new Vipers? I can't find any opinions on the change...

    Help with picking a camera

I've spent a few thousand dollars on camera equipment. The best money I ever spent for photography was a $180 two-day workshop with detailed lessons on how to use a SLR. That made a bigger difference in my photography than any lens or camera body. I'd strongly recommend a lesson from a pro...

    AF-S Nikkor 200-500mm f5.6E ED VR

Here of some of my recent favorites with the 200-500 and my d7200. I think its a great combination. I got the d7200 before the D500 was available. If I was doing it today, I'd love to have the D500/200-500 combo, though the D7200 is certainly no slouch.

    New Sigma 150/600 contemporary

Thanks for that. Both look great to me. I have a new D7200 and am looking to get my first long lens for bird photography. I've been an avid birder for years but am a beginner photographer. Between these two options, which do you think is easier to use, and would be easier to learn with...

SuburbanMaryland,Outside DC: Need Hawk ID Help

Yes - definitely not a rough-legged. Pattern is all wrong, but also doesn't have "rough legs." Rough-legged hawks have feathers all the way down their legs - giving them their name.

SuburbanMaryland,Outside DC: Need Hawk ID Help

I think I do see a belly band. Red tail for me. Looks too big and hulking for a red-shouldered.

    New Sigma 150/600

The pettiness and sniping on this board about these lenses is really ridiculous. Comparing one person's results with a lens with another's is foolish. There are just far too many variables. The only real way to do it would be to have the same person take the same picture with the same...

    Which path to choose

I was just given a gently used D300 - my first real DSLR. I'd love to get into bird photography. 300/f4 vs Tamron 150-600? Prices are not very different. I have no experience with either. I'd love to hear pros and cons and advice from more experienced/knowledgable folks. Thanks!

    Rick Young Binocular Harness/strap

I had a strap lug fail on my first pair of Zen-Ray 8x42EDs. I was using a metal ring at the time, and it had clearly worn a groove into the metal, leading to the breakage. Part of the problem was probably that the metal ring was pretty big (it was a key ring), and didn't move much in the lug...

What binoculars do you think have the most WOW factor!

Dennis - you seem most pleased with yourself given the high number of posts and views. What you don't understand is that we can't help reading your drivel in the same way we can't help but stare at the lunatic raving on the street corner. When we want accurate, honest, meaningful reviews, we...

Help, Vortex Viper HD or Razor HD?

I have a Razor and really love it. It's my first scope, so I don't have a ton of comparative experience, but I find the Razor a joy to use. Enjoy!

Yes. They are sometimes used by researchers to track birds, similar to bands on legs. Just an idea....
