    You'll hear Siskins just about anywhere. I've always found Swan pool car park to be a regular place, but last week I heard them over the RSPB centre, and there were a couple flying overhead at the bench that overlooks the RSPB island. Redpolls seem to be a bit hit and miss. In 35 years birding...

    On Wednesday I had a report of an injured Great Crested Grebe at Swan pool, near to the island. A passer-by had helped the bird back into the water and he said it looked as if the bird had been attacked by a dog. I had a good look for it on Wednesday and again today but there was no sign.

    Another Chiffchaff reported, possibly two. One next to the slipway, and one in trees just on the opposite side if the river. Nothing else if note. Loads of people starting to arrive at 10am.

    Wasn't there once a North Sea bird club for birders working on the rigs. I seem to recall reading in Birdwatching back in the eighties about the club, and some of the bird records particularly during spring and autumn migration.

    Not much difference in bird numbers on Swan pool or FML this lunchtime. Goldeneyes still on Swan pool. 10 Herring Gulls 26 Shovelers on FML 23 Pochards on FML 9 Goosander More people than birds today 🤬

    Cold an frosty earlier this morning.....- 4 degrees at 07.30am. Forge mill lake partly frozen. 3 Little Egrets 2 Goldeneye on Swan pool 1 Water Rail in the marsh 32 RN Parakeets from roost and around the RSPB centre. 1 Green Woodpecker A few Redwings about.

    Great White Egret on FML at 9am, just along from the hide near the viewing platform. Then flew low over the trees and looked to be heading towards the Newton meadows. Also 25 Shovelers on FML, and 164 Coot on Swan pool.
