    Is this a fungus

Hi I'm not sure if the attached is a fungus. In fact I'm not sure what it is. There were lots of similar patches on the branches of trees in a small reserve at Eskrigg, near Lockerbie, over Christmas. The white filaments were quite fragile and broke off at the sightest touch. Any help appreciated.

    Mothing in Mallorca

Hi Just thought I´d do a brief report of the mothing here in Mallorca in s´Albufera (a very large wetland reserve). Armchair Mothing

It's been a pleasant evening so I've been sitting with the laptop (and a net) by the open French windows that lead out onto my gaden in Southfields, London SW18, recording the moths that came in. Nothing special but some new garden 'ticks'. In no particular order: A male Black Arches (not common...

    July moths

Ran a (Robinson) trap last night, hoping the warm weather would produce a bumber crop of moths. Sadly, it was not to be. Probably 80 species in total but no Hawkmoths or anything 'big', a few geos and a few noctuids but mainly micros (also huge numbers of caddis and quite a few beetles, which...

    A foretaste of Summer

Hi At the London Wetland Centre, Barnes, Surrey this morning one of the staff found a Hummingbird Hawkmoth flying around in the Observatory. Almost certainly it had over-wintered there and was either disturbed or became active due to the milder weather. It was good to be reminded that summer...

    Spider ID please

I wonder if anyone can help with a suggestion for the identity of the spider in the attached photo. Apologies for the poor quality of the pic but it was a quick snap taken through a glass tube so as not to lose the beastie. I guess it's a common species as I found it today on my car but have...
