    Convergent evolution.

    I've been looking at an Id thread and the topic of convergent evolution has come up regarding American Black Vultures and European Black Vultures. I am now wondering what other species comes under this catagory, and does is only apply to birds? Any input would be appreciated..:t:

    My old man tells me he's been watching a flock of crossbills come down and eat the charcole from his outside fire... does anyone know of this behaviour and what would the benifits be for the crossbills?? (scotland)...

    Comma in my garden!!

    Mothing for me this month has been dire to put it mildly, but this afternoon I was delighted to view at close proximity my first ever Comma feeding on our Budlia in the back garden....along with 4 other species - Peacock, Small Tort, Red Add and Small White..:t: Happy days!!

    2 'Plumes' and some other mic's...

    Wormwood or Currant Pug?

    I'm undecided whether this is a Wormwood or a Currant Pug, I had a Currant last month and it was tiny compaired to this one, and it's got the black tip on the end of the abdomen which is why I'm swaying towards Wormwood.....does anyone have an opinion on it? Also, does anyone want to stick...

    This one has me stumped!!

    I'm struggling to put a name to this fella, if it's a Macro the closest I can find to a match is Purple Marbled, however, if it's a Micro I'm guessing it's in the Pyralidae family?? Opinions most welcome...:t:

    Black spikey caterpillar!

    My little 4yr old daughter found this at her pre-school the other day and took it home to show me, she wanted to know what kind it was but I've never seen anything like this before....I'm guessing its a Butterfly Cat. but I could be wrong? Can anyone help me out with a name for it, cheers.

    Here's a few mic's from the other nights big catch....I think photo #2 shows a possible Ancylolomia tentaculella, that's the best match I could come up with, and the last one I couldn't seem to find anything resembling it on UKMoths? I'll give 10 points for each moth named!! :t:

    Had these at the trap the other night, the've been in the fridge for two days now so I thought it was about time I got a name for them before I let them go tonight, anyone have a clue what they are? the moth in photo 2 was 16mm long....Oh wait, I think the second one is a Bee Moth, just found it...

    Dipped on Common Rosefinch, Got lovely Orange-Tip...

    I failed to find the Common Rosefinch thats been lurking around the Tormaukin Inn in Glendevon yesterday but did find and photograph this very obliging Orange-tip Butterfly - it's not a lifer, unlike the Rosefinch would have been, but the first one I've seen for a few years! :t:
