    London Moth ID 15/04/2013

The pictures are really small so I won't attempt the plume. Otherwise looks to be a mix of Early Grey, Common Quaker and Hebrew Character (and a shieldbug). It is daunting when you first start. Looking at a flying tonight site helps to narrow down, eg http://www.hantsmoths.org.uk/flying_tonight.php

    December Moth?

Yes, a December Moth. Not a rare moth and one of the few species you would expect to see at the moment, but good looking all the same.

Hi Paul. The pug was small. The lid it is photographed is for a 30mm diameter pot.

    Shropshire macros

Thanks Adam. A bit of uncertainty had crept in with the flounced rustics. I like your 'Heath-Robinson' trap BTW.

Three micros and a pug from Shropshire

Can anyone help with these micro's from Saturday night. The first two are the same moth. I also caught this pug which I have included on the off-chance that anyone can do something with this.

    Ids, Bucks

To my eye the cross band on this one looks different to the moth I caught the other night and more like cerasana. But like Paul I think this is very difficult!
  15. Mike Shurmer

    Micro from Shropshire

Thanks Paul. Having looked at the pictures on the website I am reasonably confident with this as heparana

    That's a single-dotted wave.
  17. Mike Shurmer

    Micro from Shropshire

This was in the trap on Saturday night. I have identified this as Pandemis heparana rather than P. cerasana but was interested in others thoughts.

Dioryctria sp. - Tyntesfield, North Somerset - 11.08.12

    D. sylvestrella appears to be the best fit?

    Moths of August 2012

Only my second ever trapping session on Saturday night, but well over 150 moths, 41 of which were Scarce Footman! A couple of nice micros were a Carcina quercana and a Phycita roborella.

Three macros and two micros from Shropshire

A few more from Saturday. I think the wave may be a worn small white wave, I am not sure on the others.

    Thanks Sean. Mike
